ABB UNIT RECEIVES $300 MILLION CONTRACT FOR INDONESIAN POWER PLANT.NORWALK, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 1995--ABB announced today that one of its units has received a contract valued at approximately $300 million from Mitsui & Company Ltd., Japan, to supply two 615 MW coal-fired boilers for Indonesia's first major private power plant project, known as Paiton Units 7 and 8, located about 100 kilometers southeast of Surabaya Surabaya, Surabaja, or Soerabaja (s rəbī`ə, Du. s räbä`yä), city (1990 pop. 2,473,272), capital of East Java prov. in East Java. ABB Combustion Engineering Systems will begin shipping equipment to the plant site by mid-1996. ABB, together with its local partner, Jurong Engineering Group Companies, Indonesia, will build the boiler island for Mitsui & Co. Ltd., who is the lead engineering, procurement and construction contractor supplying the turnkey power station to PT Energy Co. The two power plant units, Paiton 7 and 8, are scheduled to go into commercial operation in September 1998 and March 1999, respectively. PT Paiton Energy Co. is a limited partnership that includes Mitsui & CO. Ltd., Japan; Mission Energy BV, the Netherlands; General Electric Capital, of the United States; and PT Batu Hitam Perkasa, Indonesia. It will sell the power under a 30-year contract to PLN.
