ABB UNIT RECEIVES $300 MILLION CONTRACT FOR INDONESIAN POWER PLANT.

NORWALK, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 1995--ABB announced today that one of its units has received a contract valued at approximately $300 million from Mitsui & Company Ltd., Japan, to supply two 615 MW coal-fired boilers for Indonesia's first major private power plant project, known as Paiton Units 7 and 8, located about 100 kilometers southeast of Surabaya in East Java.

ABB Combustion Engineering Systems will begin shipping equipment to the plant site by mid-1996. ABB, together with its local partner, Jurong Engineering Group Companies, Indonesia, will build the boiler island for Mitsui & Co. Ltd., who is the lead engineering, procurement and construction contractor supplying the turnkey power station to PT Energy Co. The two power plant units, Paiton 7 and 8, are scheduled to go into commercial operation in September 1998 and March 1999, respectively.

ABB said this order follows the commissioning last year on an adjacent site of two 400 MW ABB coal-fired boilers for Indonesia's state-owned electric utility, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and represents a significant step in positioning ABB as a leading supplier to Indonesia's electric power industry.

PT Paiton Energy Co. is a limited partnership that includes Mitsui & CO. Ltd., Japan; Mission Energy BV, the Netherlands; General Electric Capital, of the United States; and PT Batu Hitam Perkasa, Indonesia. It will sell the power under a 30-year contract to PLN.
