 ABB UNIT AWARDED CONTRACT TO EXTEND COAL-FIRED POWER STATION IN CHINA
 STAMFORD, Conn., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Asea Brown Boveri Inc. (ABB) said today a unit is part of a consortium that has been awarded a contract to extend the Shajiao C coal-fired power plant in the People's Republic of China to a total of 1980 MW. The original turnkey contract to build a 1310 MW project was announced in April.
 The total value of the extended contract is now in excess of $1.4 billion, of which ABB Combustion Engineering Systems' share is approximately $400 million. The other members of the consortium are GEC Alsthom NV and Slipform Engineering Ltd.
 When completed in 1995, the project will be the largest independent power station in Asia and will supply much needed power for China's Guangdong Province, adjacent to Hong Kong. The project will be owned by a joint venture of Guangdong General Power Company and Hopewell Energy Limited, which will also operate and maintain the plant for a period of 20 years.
 Asea Brown Boveri Inc., headquartered in Stamford, Conn., provides products and services for the power, process, industrial automation, environmental control, mass transit and other markets. The company and its subsidiaries have sales of approximately $5.5 billion and some 29,000 employees in the United States.
