ABB IN CONSORTIUM TO BUILD $300 MILLION COGENERATION PLANT

 STAMFORD, Conn., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- ABB Inc. announced today that three of its Power Plant Systems businesses will supply equipment for a 180 MW coal-fired facility known as Warrior Run Cogeneration Project. The $300 million turnkey contract was awarded to a consortium of ABB and United Engineers & Constructors Inc. (UE&C) by AES Warrior Run, Inc.
 ABB Combustion Engineering Systems, based in Windsor, Conn. will supply the plant's circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler. Once completed, it will be the largest operating CFB boiler in the world. ABB's Steam Turbine Division, located in Richmond, Va. will provide the steam turbine generator set. ABB Environmental Systems, of Birmingham, Ala. will provide the air quality control system. The total value to ABB is estimated at $100 million.
 UE&C is to provide design, engineering, procurement of equipment and materials, construction and start-up support for the cogeneration plant and for a 150 ton-per-day CO2 plant.
 The project will be built on a 67-acre site in Allegany County, near Cumberland, Md. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 1994, with completion expected in late 1996.
