ABB's AC 800M Controller Achieves Mu Security Industrial Control Certification.

"MUSIC" Certification Using Mu-4000 Appliance Confirms Industrial Controller Meets Industry-Defined Best Practices for Safety, Reliability and Security

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Mu Security, a pioneer in the new security analyzer market, today announced that ABB n. 1. Among weavers, yarn for the warp. Hence, abb wool is wool for the abb s>.

:ABB), a global leader in power and automation technologies, has achieved Foundation-level Mu Security Industrial Control (MUSIC) Certification for its industry-leading System 800xA AC 800M industrial controller. In addition, ABB proactively leverages its Mu-4000 security analyzer appliance in AC 800M research and development activities to automate its ongoing security and robustness testing. MUSIC certification further validates this ongoing policy of integrating safety testing throughout the product deployment lifecycle. "ABB puts a premium on designing and maintaining our customer's safety and run-time efficient operations by striving to build the most secure and robust industrial controllers," said Kai Hansen, senior principal scientist at ABB Corporate Research. "Given the strategic industries of ABB's customers, such as oil and gas, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, pulp and paper and metals and minerals, the proactive ability to reduce exposure to potential sources of customer system downtime through Mu-4000 analysis is valuable. Receiving MUSIC Foundation certification for our System 800xA AC 800M controller is an important milestone that verifies our systems ability to meet or exceed stringent security and robustness criteria."

MUSIC Foundation and Advanced certifications both ensure critical infrastructure and process control-focused organizations verify a diverse range of network equipment and application protocols to meet industry-defined best practices for safety, reliability and security testing. MUSIC Certification and product safety benchmarking using the Mu-4000 appliance minimizes oil, gas, chemical, paper, electrical and other process control product safety issues and minimizes costly downtime due to implementation flaws in industrial control systems. The MUSIC program also provides a migration path to open industrial control systems security specifications currently under development by Government and Industry groups including ISA Security Compliance Institute (ISCI ISCI intracytoplasmic sperm injection
ISCI Idaho State Correctional Institution
ISCI Industry Standard Coding Identification
ISCI Industry Standard Commercial Identifier (Charlotte, NC)
ISCI Initial-State Configuration Interaction

Leveraging the Mu-4000 during Product Development

As an existing Mu Security customer, ABB Group uses its Mu-4000 security analyzer appliance during development of its AC 800M controllers. ABB also tested the AC 800M in situ by applying the Mu-4000's MUSIC Foundation Protocol Test Suite: ARP, DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Software that automatically assigns temporary IP addresses to client stations logging into an IP network. It eliminates having to manually assign permanent "static" IP addresses. DHCP software runs in servers and routers. , IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  802.1p/Q, IP, TCP (1) (Transmission Control Protocol) The reliable transport protocol within the TCP/IP protocol suite. TCP ensures that all data arrive accurately and 100% intact at the other end. , TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol) A lightweight version of the FTP protocol that has no directory browsing or password capability. Employing UDP rather than TCP for transport, TFTP is typically used to transfer firmware upgrades to network equipment such as  and UDP UDP (uridine diphosphate): see uracil.

(User Datagram Protocol) A protocol within the TCP/IP protocol suite that is used in place of TCP when a reliable delivery is not required.
. Test results were then analyzed and subsequently certified by Mu Security to ensure ABB's system met or exceeded MUSIC's multi-faceted safety and security stress test. By safely responding to the Mu-4000's negative testing suite, the AC 800M achieved the MUSIC Foundation level of certification.

"Providing industrial control certification for a process control manufacturer leader like ABB further validates the strategic value of the Mu-4000 vulnerability analysis approach," said Ajit Sancheti, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Mu Security. "As process control devices in strategic environments gain network connectivity, it's important to address potential safety concerns and sustain maximum system uptime."
