ABAXIS statement concerning law suit.


SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 26, 1996--ABAXIS Inc. (Nasdaq NM:ABAX ABAX Abaxial ), a medical products company, was named as a defendant in a complaint filed by IDEXX Laboratories IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. or IDXX NASDAQ: IDXX is a multinational corporation engaged in the development, manufacture, and distribution of products and services for the veterinary, food, and water testing markets.  Inc. on June 20, 1996, in which, according to according to

 a press release issued by IDEXX, the company "alleges that ABAXIS is responsible for an anonymous mailing containing false and defamatory information which was circulated recently to veterinary clinics regarding the use of Vitros (Ektachem) DT slides on the IDEXX VetTest 8008 blood chemistry analyzer."

In response, ABAXIS denies the allegations that it has provided false and misleading information concerning IDEXX's veterinary test. ABAXIS stands by the results of the study, which was conducted by a consulting investigator, and intends to defend itself vigorously in this matter.

Founded in 1989, ABAXIS develops, manufactures, and markets portable blood analysis systems for use in any patient-care setting to provide clinicians with rapid blood constituent measurements. The system consists of a compact, 6.9 kilogram kilogram, abbr. kg, fundamental unit of mass in the metric system, defined as the mass of the International Prototype Kilogram, a platinum-iridium cylinder kept at Sèvres, France, near Paris. , portable analyzer and a series of 8-cm diameter single-use plastic disks, called reagent discs, that contain all the reagents necessary to perform a fixed menu of tests.

The system can be operated with minimal training and perform multiple routine tests on whole blood using either venous or fingerstick samples. The system provides test results in less than 14 minutes with the precision and accuracy equivalent to a clinical laboratory.
