ABANDONED HOUSE NEAR MOVIE RANCH DESTROYED.

SAUGUS - An abandoned house on the outskirts of a local movie ranch A movie ranch is a ranch that is at least partially dedicated to being used as a site for the production of motion pictures.

Movie ranches first came into use in southern California in the 1920s when westerns had become increasingly popular.

Located about 2 1/2 miles inland from the corner of Haskell Canyon Road and Copperhill Drive, the burning house was first noticed by a caretaker who was driving near the property and suddenly came upon the fire around 4:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Not to be confused with Los Angeles Fire Department.

The house sits close to the Veluzat Motion Picture Ranch and has been seen on many TV shows over the years.

" was recently filming areas in front of the house, said Daniel Veluzat, director of the ranch.

He said there was no filming taking place at the abandoned house Thursday.

Veluzat was working in the Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studios when the caretaker called him about the fire. He couldn't get to the scene, because of a deadly accident that happened with the Metrolink.

"The house is probably 2 1/2 miles in. That's hard to see from the road," Veluzat said. "Luckily they were traveling in and saw it."
