ABA GUIDELINES FOR COVERAGE OF THURGOOD MARSHALL AWARDS DINNER, SATURDAY, AUG. 7

    The Thurgood Marshall Awards Dinner, sponsored by the ABA Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities, will be held in the Trianon Ballroom, New York Hilton Hotel.  The dinner is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7.
    Andrew Young, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations will address the gathering.  Judge Frank Johnson of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals will receive the 1993 award.  This is the second annual presentation of the award, named in honor of the late Justice Marshall who received the first annual award in 1992.
    ABA media credentials are required for admission to this event. Credentials can be obtained between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily in the ABA New Center, Rhinelander Gallery, 2nd floor, New York Hilton Hotel.
    The room will be available for set up starting at 6:30 p.m. Final sound and light checks will be at 7:15 p.m.
    To facilitate coverage, photographers and camera crews will be required to work from a press platform about 60 feet from the dais, and facing it head-on.  A mult box and electrical power will be provided. Adequate lighting will be available on the dais, and supplemental lighting or flash will not be permitted.  There will be a brief photo opportunity at the beginning of the speech.  Those who wish to participate should assemble at the press platform and meet a member of the ABA Communications Staff just before the speech.
