AASI Aircraft Promotes Jack Vance as Vice President for Quality Assurance.

) today announced the promotion of Jack Vance John Holbrook Vance (born August 28, 1916 in San Francisco, California) is generally described as an American fantasy and science fiction author. Most of his work has been published under the name Jack Vance. , a veteran aircraft quality assurance executive, as its vice president of Quality Assurance, effective immediately.

Vance established AASI's quality assurance department in 1991, an important function required by the FAA for the company's Type and Product Certificate programs for the JETCRUZER 450. He previously served as director of Quality Assurance for Bromon Aircraft Corp. and manager of Quality Assurance for Tracor Aviation.

He has worked directly with the FAA Manufacturing Inspection District Office (MIDO MIDO Manufacturing Inspection District Offices ) on behalf of AASI in the last few years for the certification of AASI's JETCRUZER 500. Vance reports directly to Dr. Carl Chen, president and chief executive officer of AASI Aircraft.

"Quality Assurance is one of the most important factors in aircraft certification and production," Chen said. "The Quality Assurance department is also involved in the engineering drawing release process, as well the purchasing of parts and materials.

"Jack Vance brings to AASI vast experience in quality control in aircraft manufacturing and was responsible for AASI's JETCRUZER 450 FAA certification. I am very impressed and delighted with his successful record over last 10 years in the implementation of quality assurance systems for aircraft operations for AASI."

The company currently has a backlog of $226 million with 188 orders for the JETCRUZER 500. In addition the company announced in August of 2000 that a letter of intent was signed with China Eastern to purchase 30 JETCRUZER 500s, with options to buy an additional 20 aircraft.

The China Eastern aircraft are not included in the 188 shown above and will be added to the total as the Letter of Intent and option is converted to a firm sale.

The JETCRUZER 500 is a high-speed single engine, corporate propjet aircraft that can accommodate first class seating for six people, including the pilot. Powered by a Pratt & Whitney propjet engine, the JETCRUZER 500 will cruise near jet speeds of 345 miles per hour at altitudes of up to 30,000 feet.
