AASA and Canter/Sylvan partner to develop online administrator training.

AASA and the Canter/Sylvan Corporation have partnered to co-develop a world-class online administrator training program that will lead to a master's degree and administrator licensure.

To assist in the effort, AASA has retained the services of Willis ("Bill") Hawley, who will act as the association's "scholar in residence." As part of this new role, Hawley will act as AASA's primary contact with content specialists and the program development staff at Canter/Sylvan.

Bill recently stepped down as the dean of the college of education at the University of Maryland, where he retains a professorship. Prior to that he was the long-time dean at Peabody College, Vanderbilt University. Trained as a sociologist, his research interests are broad, but he made his reputation doing some of the best-known work in school desegregation. In recent years he has been heavily focused on teacher education.

Also helping AASA in this exciting work will he former AASA President Joe Cirasuolo, superintendent of schools in Wallingford, Conn. Joe is retiring this fall and will join AASA as "superintendent in residence" in November. Cirasuolo will be AASA's primary link to school systems looking for innovative ways to provide online training for sitting principals. Cirasuolo and Hawley will work together with AASA's corporate colleagues from Canter/Sylvan to modify and expand curricula offerings into online staff development modules.
