"The price of crude tipped the scale above $59 a barrel this week, setting a new record high," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "The sustained upward direction in crude oil prices is of course driving gasoline prices higher. If the price of crude pushes beyond $60 a barrel and stays there, a fresh run at new record high gas prices will occur."

The national average for regular self-serve gasoline is $2.180 a gallon -- up four cents in one week.
