AAA Supports New 'America on the Move' Smithsonian Exhibition That Showcases History of Transportation.

AAA announced today it is a proud sponsor of the Smithsonian Institution's new multi-media exhibition that traces the evolution of the modern transportation system from the late 1800s to today. Titled "America on the Move" and housed in the National Museum of American History, the exhibition does more than display trains, trucks, cars and ships - it tells a story about how transportation shaped our nation.

AAA joins General Motors, State Farm Companies Foundation, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the History Channel and six other associations and foundations in support of the exhibition which opens November 22 and will run for the next two decades.

"Americans have always been on the move, but this exhibition will help us reflect on how transportation has played a major role in our nation's history and how it has influenced our everyday lives," said Robert L. Darbelnet, president and CEO of AAA.

A major venture for the museum, the exhibition promises to transport visitors back in time, immersing them in the sights, sounds and sensations of evolving transportation. More than a dozen historical vignettes will showcase the already popular collection of large trains and trucks, classic cars and other modes of transportation displayed at the museum.

America on the Move's fascinating story also parallels the history of AAA - an organization founded in 1902 when 1,000 members banded together to campaign for better roads and more reliable vehicles.
