 said today that it supports the idea of a national phone number -- N11-- a telephone number similar to 911, which would provide motorists with real-time travel information throughout the country.

The FCC was created under the U.S.  to establish N11 as the national travel information phone number.

In its letter to FCC, AAA said it believes N11 will also improve emergency response time for police, fire and rescue vehicles. A universally recognized national number would be available to travelers, wherever they travel, and would enhance safety and security, AAA said.
