AAA Says February Gas Price Lower At $1.12 Per Gallon.

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 12, 2002

The nationwide average price of self-serve regular gasoline was $1.132 one month ago and has fluctuated very little since then, AAA's daily, online Fuel Gauge Report shows (http://www.fuelgaugereport.com). One year ago the nationwide average price was $1.477.

AAA said the outlook for continued stable gasoline prices remains strong for the first quarter of 2002, as long as worldwide energy production is uninterrupted by military or political events.

Gas prices in the Southeast and Southwest are the best bargains this month, at $1.074 per gallon and $1.097 per gallon, respectively. Prices in the Southeast are down 1.9 cents and prices in the Southwest are down 1.6 cents from last month.

Prices in the Great Lakes Great Lakes, group of five freshwater lakes, central North America, creating a natural border between the United States and Canada and forming the largest body of freshwater in the world, with a combined surface area of c.95,000 sq mi (246,050 sq km). , Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions also have fallen since last month. The average gasoline price is unchanged in the West at $1.264 and in the New England New England, name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The region is thought to have been so named by Capt.  prices increased 5.5 cents to $1.172 per gallon.

Nationwide, the price of self-serve, mid-grade averages $1.189, a decrease of 1.2 cents from last month, and down 37.9 cents from last year.

Self-serve premium averages $1.232 per gallon, down 1.3 cents since mid-January, and 39.3 cents lower than one year ago.

Average regional gasoline prices in February of last year were: West, $1.574; New England, $1.512; Mid-Atlantic, $1.476; Great Lakes, $1.458; Southwest, $1.436; Midwest, $1.496; and Southeast, $1.429.

The national average prices for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline for AAA's February survey for the last five years were: 2001, $1.477; 2000, $1.367; 1999, $0.96; 1998, $1.114; 1997, $1.287; and 1996, $1.129.
