AAA's Great Battery Roundup(R) Kick Off; Experts to Demonstrate How to Properly ''Lasso'' a Stray Battery.

AAA AAA: see American Automobile Association.

(Triple A) A common single-cell battery used in a myriad of electronic devices of all variety. Like its double A (AA) cousin, it provides 1.5 volts of DC power. When used in series, the voltage is multiplied.
 Texas:
What: AAA's Great Battery Roundup(R) is a recycling campaign to
collect "stray" vehicle, motorcycle, boat and small plane
batteries for recycling and supporting a local
environmental group. Batteries will be accepted April
17-22 at 96 collection locations throughout Texas. For
every battery collected, the AAA Battery Service will
donate $1.50 to the Children's Environmental Health
Institute. The charity's mission is to support initiatives
            to improve children's environmental health.

Who: AAA Texas General Manager Mark Bell and AAA Texas Approved
            Auto Repair Manager Patrick O'Reilly.

When: 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at Rick's Independent Car
Kare, 1605 W. Irving Blvd., Irving, Tx.

Photo Opp: Visuals include interviews and an expert demonstration of
how to safely prepare a battery to transport it to a
            recycling center.

Why: Five million stray batteries weren't returned to industry
recycling plants last year. Dead batteries can discharge
lead and acid contaminating soil and water. Contamination
creates a health hazard for humans and animals.

The AAA Texas goal is to collect 1,000 batteries or more
from garages, carports, yards, tool sheds, storage units
            and other places.
