A1 drivers to face delays.


Motorists on the A1 will face delays from today, (MON) when work begins on a new layby.

Work on the layby at Haggerston Castle Haggerston Castle [1]is a hamlet located in the county of Northumberland. Today, it is best known as a caravan park owned by Haven & British Holidays. Historically, it was a baronetcy in the civil parish of Ancroft, then located in County Durham. , near Berwick, will be carried out between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Friday, with temporary traffic lights in place during the work. The layby should be complete by August 24.

Family fund

They are often cultivated for ornament and for the edible nuts.  Aiton died in August in a road accident near her Borders home.

Now her family has set up Hazel's Footprints Trust to fund people who want to work voluntarily in schools, charities or other projects abroad. They have started the fund by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, raising pounds 45,000.

Rail works ahead

The Stephenson railway works near Newcastle's Central Station is to be open to the public on selected days.

Free guided tours of the South Street site will take place on August 13 and 14, September 8, 9, 10 and 11, and October 8 and 9.
