The luncheon is sponsored by the Community Club of Jamay, Jalisco, a Palmdale organization of Jalisco emigrants, and the Antelope Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Gonzalez, who runs M&M Heating and Air Conditioning air conditioning, mechanical process for controlling the humidity, temperature, cleanliness, and circulation of air in buildings and rooms. He and Ramirez Acuna both grew up in Jamay and they had met a number of years ago when Ramirez Acuna was mayor of Guadalajara, Jalisco's capital.

Jalisco is best known to most Americans as the state containing Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara, Mexico's second biggest city. With more than 5.3 million people in 1990, it is one of Mexico's largest industrial areas.

``They have a pretty strong economy,'' Gonzalez said.

Ramirez Acuna was elected governor in November, Jalisco's second from the opposition National Action Party, or PAN. PAN President Vicente Fox, elected last July, was Mexico's first leader in 71 years not to come from the Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI PRI: see Institutional Revolutionary party.
