The Antelope Valley
, Canyon Country and Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  will perform Saturday in the first Antelope Valley Gospel Festival.

The performances will range from traditional songs, hymns and anthems to rap-style music with a religious message, said promoter Louis Carr.

The concert will benefit Kappa Alpha Psi Kappa Alpha Psi (KAΨ) is the second-oldest collegiate Greek-letter fraternity with a predominantly African American membership and the first black intercollegiate fraternity incorporated as a national body.  fraternity's Guide Right program, which provides scholarships and guidance to African-American high school and college students. Kappa Alpha Psi is an 86-year-old national fraternity whose members include former Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, attorney Johnnie Cochran Jr. and film director John Singleton.

Also performing will be Bible Tabernacle Tabernacle (tăb`ərnăk'əl), in the Bible, the portable holy place of the Hebrews during their desert wanderings. It was a tent, like the portable tent-shrines used by ancient Semites, set up in each camp; eventually it housed the Ark  Men's Choir from Canyon Country, and God's Property, a community choir whose singers range in ages from 10 to 30 and come from around Southern California.

The show is the second put on by Blackstage Productions, which consists of Carr and Robert Norris. Last month the pair organized Celebrating Our Youth - a step show, a style of dance entertainment that originated with African-American fraternities and derives from African tribal dance - at the Lancaster Knights of Columbus Knights of Columbus, American Roman Catholic society for men, founded (1882) at New Haven, Conn. (where its headquarters are still located), by Father Michael J. McGivney.  hall.

``We were trying to create a program that in time would create activities for African-Americans,'' Carr said. ``Rob and I were concerned if we wanted to see a play or go to a jazz club or hear a choir sing, we have to leave the Antelope Valley.''

The duo's productions, Carr said, are ``not exclusively for the black community, but (aimed at) creating a positive image for our community and to share our culture and at the same time raise money for scholarships for African-American students.''
