A.V. TO BAKERSFIELD: HERE'S JOHNNY WALKER DOES IT ALL IN SEASON-OPENING THRASHING A.V. 30, BAKERSFIELD 10.Byline: Ross Ross , Sir Ronald 1857-1932. British physician. The Antelope Valley High quarterback Johnny Walker served notice that this season's meeting with Bakersfield would not be a repeat of the Antelopes' one-sided losses in years past. Walker, who electrified the crowd with a 35-yard return early in the game, led No. 8 Antelope Valley to a 30-10 victory over Bakersfield, its first win over the defending Central Section Yosemite Division champions since 1985. ``I wanted that game so bad," said Walker, who injured in·jure tr.v. in·jured, in·jur·ing, in·jures 1. And I'm pretty sure I showed that on the field today." All the credit went to Walker, who turned the first half into his personal showcase, running wild on offense, chasing down tacklers on defense and even busting a fake punt for 28 yards. Walker also turned in a play that Antelope Valley fans will be talking about for years. On the first play of the second quarter, Bakersfield receiver Daniel Varvel caught a pass and headed down the sideline sideline See on the sidelines. for a first down. But Walker instantly stripped the ball from Varvel and took it back 47 yards to make it 16-0. ``I read him all the way,'' Walker said. ``I knew he'd cut back, so I faked like I was going outside and when he cut inside I just stripped him and walked into the end zone.'' After being on the wrong end of a 43-0 loss last season and a 43-17 defeat in 2000, Antelope Valley returned the favor Friday. And Walker was the reason why. He finished with 213 yards in 19 carries and added 99 yards on kick returns. Walker accounted for one defensive touchdown, a 22-yard field goal in the first quarter and capped the half with a 35-yard touchdown run, the last five of which he jogged into the end zone. ``He's just a real gifted athlete,'' Antelope Valley coach Brent Brent, outer borough (1991 pop. 226,100) of Greater London, SE England. The area is a rail and industrial center. Its manufactures include automobile parts, clocks and watches, and electrical equipment. Newcomb said. ``That's all I can say. ... It's nice to beat Bakersfield. There are always peaks and valleys with a program, but Bakersfield is almost always at the top.'' Bakersfield (0-2) had no chance almost from the opening possession, as Walker led the Antelopes on an 11-play, 65-yard drive. He ran for 10 yards and completed a 13-yard pass to Eric Wickliffe.
