A.V. TEAMS PUSH ON AFTER LOSSES.

Byline: Kathy Orton Special to the Daily News

Both the Palmdale High girls basketball team and the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The Antelope Valley
Christian boys team suffered losses this past weekend. One was close, the other not so close.

But both continue their seasons despite the setback setback

Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Division I regionals. The game is being played as part of a double-header with the Crenshaw-Glendora boys contest.

The Falcons (28-3) advanced to the finals by winning close games at the end. On Saturday, after being down 10 points to start the fourth quarter, Palmdale outscored the Panthers (30-1) 8-2 to close out the game, but didn't have enough to put Peninsula away.

"The kids played not to lose, instead of playing to win the game," said Falcons coach George Corisis. "They had never been in a big game like that before. They made some very foolish mistakes."

The loss was emotionally devastating dev·as·tate

for Palmdale, which was competing in its first finals. Corisis is concerned about whether his team will be able to take control over its bitter disappointment and focus on beating Washington.

"I think it's real tough," Corisis said of coming back to play a game so soon after a tough loss. "We're emotionally down, disappointed. We'll see in (Monday's) practice."

Washington (22-4) beat Palisades Palisades, cliffs along the west bank of the Hudson River, NE N.J. and SE N.Y., extending from N of Jersey City, N.J., to the vicinity of Piermont, N.Y., with a general altitude of from 350 ft to 550 ft (107–168 m).  on Saturday for the City Section 4-A title - a record-tying fifth section title. The Generals were led by 5-foot-1-inch Tina Greer, a four-year starter who scored 26 points, including four 3-point baskets. Junior forward Shawnee Pickney added 17 points.

Should the Falcons get past Washington, their second round opponent likely would be Buena, the team that knocked Palmdale out in the quarterfinals last season. The two teams have not met this season.

finals to Pacific Hills on Friday.

"That was kind of devastating to them," said Antelope Valley Christian coach Frank Lawton. "Their immediate response was complete shock. They were a little embarrassed about their performance."

For 25 games, the Eagles never tasted defeat. They had rolled over opponents throughout the regular season and playoffs with hardly a challenge. Even though Antelope Valley Christian felt like the underdog going into the game, it never expected the outcome.

"At 25-0, we felt a little immortal," said senior guard Aaron Ligons. "We just have to come back, play harder and work harder in practice."

In overcoming this setback, the Eagles have only to look to Montclair Prep for incentive. The Mounties, like Antelope Valley Christian, lost in the Southern Section finals, but came back to win the state championship.

"They have a little more determined attitude," Lawton said.

The Eagles will travel to San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. Coronado is across the bay.  to play Horizon Christian (24-5), which came one step away from winning the Division V state title. The Panthers, who lost to Montclair Prep 59-58 last year, return all five starters from that team.

"It will be a real different challenge," Lawton said. "It's just a matter of calming down and playing our game."
