A.V. ROUNDUP: PALMDALE DEFEAT IS A (BAD) SNAP.

Sometimes two bad snaps is all it takes.

At least that was the case for the Palmdale High football team Friday night. Verbum Dei took advantage of two safeties, both the result of bad snaps, to defeat Palmdale 25-24 at St. Matthias High.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Palmdale had to punt from its 7-yard line leading 24-23. The snap went over Anthony Valentino's head for the safety - the second of the night - to give Verbum Dei the win.

``They beat us in the second half,'' Palmdale coach Jeff William said. ``We couldn't stop them, they won.''

Palmdale intercepted three passes by Verbum Dei quarterback Darryll Conner in the first half, and tailback Marquis Murray scored twice, to give the Falcons a 14-9 lead at halftime.

Palmdale scored on its first possession of the second half when kicker Valentino kicked a 40-yard field goal. Later in the quarter, quarterback Johnathan Thompson scored from 20 yards out on a keeper.

Verbum Dei backup quarterback Robert Maddox Robert Foster Maddox (April 4,1870 – 1965) was a mayor of Atlanta, Georgia.
