The Antelope Valley
 voters go to the polls today to decide the fate of the $103.6 million high school bond Measure V and pick their political parties' nominees for state Assembly, among other races.

In Kern County, voters will pick a sheriff and a second district county supervisor and, in the Mojave Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts. , decide on two more school construction measures.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. For information on polling places, voters can call (800) 815-2666 in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County or (800) 452-8683 in Kern County.

The Antelope Valley's most high-profile race has been for party nominations in the 36th Assembly District. Tuesday's winners will compete against each other Nov. 5.

Democratic candidates are Byron M. Bostic and Robert Davenport Robert Davenport (fl. 1623-1639) was an English dramatist of the early seventeenth century. Nothing is known of his early life or education; the title pages of two of his plays identify him as a "Gentleman," though there is no record of him at either of the two universities or the . Republican candidates are Mike Dispenza, Ollie M. McCaulley, Sharon Runner Sharon Runner (born May 17 1954, Los Angeles) is a Californian politician. She has been a member of the California State Assembly since 2002. Runner, a Republican from Antelope Valley represents the 36th district.  and Phil Wyman.

Running for the Los Angeles County Superior Court judge seat vacated by retiring Judge Richard Spann are Richard E. Naranjo, Craig Renetzky and Larry H. Layton.

In Kern County, Hal Chealander, Steve A. Perez and Mack Wimbish are running for sheriff. Linda White '''Linda Marie[1] White''' was Alpha Kappa Alpha's twenty-sixth International President, who served from 2002 to 2006. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in political science from Clark College, and attained a Master of Arts in political , Don Maben, Mac Askari Askari is an Arabic, Turkish, Somali, Persian and Swahili word meaning "soldier" (Arabic: عسكري ‘askarī). , Louis L. Litwin, Bernita Jenkins and Mary Beth Garrison are running in the second supervisorial district.

If none of the sheriff or supervisor candidates gets a majority, the top two vote-getters will face each other in November.

In the Mojave Unified School District, voters will decide Measure B, which would impose an annual $25.50 parcel tax for five years for modernizing schools. Measure B needs a two-thirds vote to pass.

In California City, citizens will vote on Measure C, which would authorize a $16 million bond measure to build a high school and an elementary school.

In the Southern Kern Unified School District, voters will fill two board vacancies left by the resignations last year of trustees Charles King and Pat Hopping.

Candidates are James ``JD'' Moshier, Walter ``Wally'' Kline, Jean Brazeal, Jim Payne, Olaf Landsgaard, Timothy ``T.J.'' Schank Jr. and Bill Hughes.
