A.V. MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONIES TO HONOR VETERANS.

PALMDALE - Memorial Day will be commemorated Monday throughout the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

Services are planned at cemeteries in Quartz Hill, Lancaster and Palmdale and at parks in Lake Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  and Rosamond.

In Lancaster, Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of California Cmdr. Richard Eubank of Sacramento will be the keynote speaker in ceremonies that will begin at 10 a.m. at Joshua Memorial Park, 808 E. Lancaster Blvd.

Ceremonies will include the dedication of the park's Avenue of the Flags, the section which has been reserved as the last resting place for veterans and their spouses.

Nine flagpoles lining the paved access road will fly Old Glorywhile the standards of each of the five military branches areraised in a tribute to fallen heroes.

A traditional three-bell salute will be included in theceremonies and grave sites will be marked with small Americanflags.

The ceremony will include representatives of VFW See Video for Windows.  Posts 7283 and 3000; American Legion American Legion, national association of male and female war veterans, founded (1919) in Paris. Membership is open to veterans of World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.  Post 311; Disabled American Veterans The Disabled American Veterans, or DAV, is an organization for disabled veterans that helps them and their families through various means. It currently has over 1.2 million members.

The DAV was controversial during the 2006 election cycle.
; Knights of Columbus Knights of Columbus, American Roman Catholic society for men, founded (1882) at New Haven, Conn. (where its headquarters are still located), by Father Michael J. McGivney.  and the Lancaster Loyal Order of Moose Lodge.

In Quartz Hill, Roman Catholic Bishop Gerald Wilkerson will say Mass at 10 a.m. at The Good Shephard Cemetery, 43121 70th St. W.

In Lake Los Angeles, the Lake Los Angeles Veterans Memorial Committee will host a memorial service at 10 a.m. for all veterans, prisoners of war prisoners of war, in international law, persons captured by a belligerent while fighting in the military. International law includes rules on the treatment of prisoners of war but extends protection only to combatants.  and servicemen declared missing in action.

The service will be held at 10 a.m. at the Lake Los Angeles Community Park on 170th Street East.

Palmdale's Antelope Valley Service Organization will hold its annual Memorial Day observance at 11 a.m. at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 2200 E. Ave. S, Palmdale.

Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford, Assemblyman George Runner, R-Lancaster, and Air Force Plant 42 Cmdr. Lt. Col. Celeo Wright will be the guest speakers. The ceremony will also feature speakers representing Palmdale veterans and service organizations.

In Rosamond, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9657 and American Legion Post 490 will host the sixth annual Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at Rosamond Park, on Glendower Street north of Rosamond Boulevard.

The guest speaker will be Command Chief Master Sgt. Jeff Sergeant, Air Force Flight Test Center's top sergeant.

The ceremony will include a 50-year anniversary tribute to Korean War veterans ≈The last U.S. Korean War veteran on active duty was Lt.Col Don Byers, US Army, who retired in 1992
  • Neil Armstrong, astronaut, US Navy
  • F. Lee Bailey, lawyer, US Marine Corps
  • James A.
 and their families.

Rev. Mike Janz of First Southern Baptist Church of Rosamond will offer prayers.

Lunch will be served after the ceremony at the VFW Post 9657, on 20th Street at Elray Street.
