 man has been charged with robbing elderly women at gunpoint and leaving them tied up in their apartments in two home-invasion robberies at a Torrance senior citizens complex, police said.

Police began watching O'Neal after getting a tip last week that he might be involved in the robberies, which took place Aug. 6 and Nov. 18. When police stopped him Monday in Torrance, they found in his vehicle a loaded gun and other items linking him to the robberies, authorities said.

A search of his home later turned up other evidence, police said.

Police would not disclose where he lived, other than in the Antelope Valley. They also would not disclose any specific link to the New Horizons senior citizens complex.

``There is a connection,'' said Torrance police Lt. Rod Irvine.
