LANCASTER - Construction is slated to begin in another month or so on Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The 89,000-square-foot imaging center will be built on hospital-owned land on the west side of 15th Street West, between Avenues J-4 and J-8, and is expected to be completed in 14 months.

``There are a lot of site improvements that benefit not only the imaging center but the long-range development of the campus,'' hospital Director Gary Hill Gary Hill (born in 1951, Santa Monica, California, U.S.) is an American artist who lives and works in Seattle, Washington.

The board had previously approved going forward with the center and at Wednesday's meeting OK'd the financing for the project.

About 22,000 square feet of the building's first floor will house the outpatient radiology department, a report said. The remaining 4,000 square feet will be leased to the Valley Tumor tumor: see neoplasm.  Medical Group, whose current offices are on Lancaster Boulevard.

The upper floors will be leased by physicians, the report said.

The construction of the building amounts to more than $17 million, which includes off-site improvements such as water and utility lines, the widening of 15th Street West, and a traffic signal, Hill said.

Other project costs include financing and legal fees, interest and a contingency reserve fund, the report said.

In a related item, the board approved spending nearly $1 million for the purchase and installation of a second MRI 1. (application) MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

 scanner, Hill said.

The MRI will temporarily be housed in a portable building on hospital grounds and move over to the radiology center when it is completed, Hill said.

``It is our conclusion that there is a serious need for a second MRI machine for relieving some of the wait times for MRIs at AV Hospital,'' a staff report said. ``Having a second MRI at this time primarily devoted to outpatient services outpatient services Hospital-based services Managed care Medical and other services provided, to a nonadmitted Pt, by a hospital or other qualified facility–eg, mental health clinic, rural health clinic, mobile X-ray unit, free-standing dialysis unit Examples  will give us a head start on our outpatient imaging center and build up market share.''

The new MRI machine will be open on one side and will produce higher quality images, Hill said.
