 home prices slipped in October, continuing a slide that started the month before after two years of rapidly escalating prices.

Median sales prices in October for existing homes dipped to $128,750 in Palmdale and $116,000 in Lancaster, down from $134,500 and $120,000, respectively, in September, according to according to

Prices peaked in August at $136,000 in Palmdale and $124,500 in Lancaster.

The statewide median price of an existing, single-family home in October was $272,570, down 1 percent from September but 8.5 percent above the October 2000 price.

Antelope Valley prices remain well above the figures from this time last year, despite the price declines of the last two months, because prices had been rising so rapidly.

The October median price was 11.1 percent ahead of October 2000 in Palmdale, and 13.7 percent ahead in Lancaster.

Back in December 1999, median sales prices were $84,000 in Palmdale and $75,000 in Lancaster.
