PALMDALE - Antelope Valley High School Antelope Valley High School is located in Lancaster, California and is part of the Antelope Valley Union High School District. It was founded in 1912[1]. It is located in the Mojave Desert.  senior Jose Luis Orozco won second place in the Soroptimist Regional Youth Citizenship Award competition.

He will receive a check for $2,050 at the club meeting this week.

The Youth Citizenship Award is a Soroptimist International program to recognize outstanding contributions made by young people to their homes and communities.

Recipients are chosen on the basis of service, dependability, leadership and sense of purpose.

Orozco has volunteered with numerous organizations and has received many honors, including principal's honor roll and Navy honors. He also is part of the Latino Youth Leadership Project.

 will be appointing new officers June 2 at the annual installation banquet.

Caroline Byassec will be president for a second term. Other officers will be Maureen O'Neill, vice president; Rosanna Shanbrom, recording secretary; Elaine Heitman, corresponding secretary; Lynn Pompey, treasurer; and Susan Hogrete and Katie Corbett, directors.

PALMDALE - The third annual installation dinner and dance for Latinos for Social Justice is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to midnight June 1 at the Palmdale Cultural Center, 704 E. Palmdale Blvd.

The Drifters, known for hits such as ``Under The Boardwalk'' and ``This Magic Moment,'' will provide entertainment.

Tickets are $25 per person and proceeds will benefit the student scholarship fund.
