The region contains the San Francisco Bay Area, the state capital, Sacramento; as well as the substantial natural beauty of the redwood forests, the northern , Steve Baker Steve Baker (born September 8, 1978 in Pontefract, West Yorkshire) is an English professional footballer who is a defender and currently plays for Gateshead. Baker has played for a number of clubs including Middlesbrough, Huddersfield Town, Darlington, Hartlepool and found he couldn't sleep. Baker had traveled to Sacramento to visit his father and had left just before flooding broke dozens of levees, uprooting as many as 100,000 people. Baker heard about the devastation - which didn't affect his family up north - when he got home. ``I was wondering, why can't I sleep?'' said Baker, the executive director of Grace Resource Center, an Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. Tapping into Antelope Valley's church and business community to help with donations, Baker started collecting blankets, food and other items to deliver to flood victims. Baker drove the first truckload truck·load n. The quantity that a truck can hold. truckload n → camión m lleno to Sacramento on Monday and plans to deliver donations once a week through at least the rest of the month. The first truckload included 250 new blankets, 40 cases of diapers, 30 cases of Snapple and 300 pounds of coffee. The American Red Cross American Red Cross: see Red Cross. and a Sacramento Rotary Club helped distribute the donations. ``They went nuts when they saw the truck. And when they found out we had driven from Lancaster they really went nuts,'' Baker said. Baker plans to deliver the next truckload of donations to Modesto on Tuesday. Grace Resource Center will work with a Modesto radio station and a Baptist church to get the items distributed. Grace Resource Center is seeking donations of ground coffee, clean or new blankets, hygiene and toiletry items, paper goods and nonperishable foods including baby foods and formula. Grace Resource Center responded to disasters in the past, including collecting donations for victims of the Northridge Earthquake The Northridge earthquake occurred on January 17, 1994 at 4:31 AM Pacific Standard Time in the city of Los Angeles, California. The earthquake had a "strong" moment magnitude of 6. and the earthquake that struck Kobe, Japan.
