Making the trip were board president John Fergione; Brooks; Norm Hickling, chairman-elect of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce; Lew Stults, field representative for U.S. Rep. Howard ``Buck'' McKeon, R-Santa Clarita; and Stults' wife, Karen, principal of Jack Northrop School. Their itinerary included meetings with Lt. Gen. Greg Martin, principal deputy secretary of the Air Force for acquisition; and Jack Manclark, director of Air Force Test and Evaluation. At both meetings, the board delegates voiced their support for bringing more test programs to Edwards Air Force Base Edwards Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 301,000 acres (121,805 hectares), S Calif., NE of Lancaster; est. 1933. Hickling, who was making his first trip to Washington, said the experience was an eye-opener in how lobbying works. ``It taught me the lesson of how much you have to make the contact and explain the issues,'' Hickling said. ``Every office we went into, they wanted the information. They wanted to hear our perspective, and they asked questions.'' |
