A.V. COMEBACK ROCKS EAGLE ROCK : ANTELOPE VALLEY 14, EAGLE ROCK 10.

Byline: Chris Cocoles Daily News Staff Writer

With most players wearing short sleeves and no jackets, Eagle Rock High's baseball team was unprepared for a bitterly cold afternoon in the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

But Eagle Rock couldn't sustain the offense, and the Antelopes (2-1) rallied for a 14-10 win in a game halted in the fifth inning because of darkness.

Other reasons to suspend the game could have included a wind chill wind chill, the cooling effect of wind and temperature combined, expressed in terms of the effect produced by a lower, windless temperature, also called wind chill factor, wind chill temperature, wind chill equivalent temperature, wind chill index, wind chill  near freezing and sloppy play by both sides. The teams combined for nine errors, three balks, two passed balls and three wild pitches.

``It wasn't a thing of beauty,'' Eagle Rock (0-3) coach Rick Zuber said.

The Eagles started fast, scoring six runs against freshman pitcher Kevin Joy.

``We just did not come out ready to play,'' said first-year A.V. coach Ryan Branch, whose team played well in splitting tournament games with Monroe and Glendale. ``(Eagle Rock) had scored just two runs their first two games. But I told the kids not to overlook this team. I guess we did.''

Although the Antelopes lineup included two freshmen and two sophomores, A.V. didn't crumble after falling behind early. Joy's leadoff double in the bottom of the first, followed by run-scoring triples from Corey Nolte and Brandon Stewart, keyed a four-run rally.

In the second, Stewart (3 for 4, three RBI RBI

``We played terrible. I think that's as terrible as we'll play all season,'' said Stewart, a junior right fielder right fielder

Branch hoped to save pitcher Justin Morgan Justin Morgan, 1792–1821, American horse, the foundation sire of the Justin Morgan breed of horses.
