A.V. COLLEGE HOPING TO BOOST ENROLLMENT.

Byline: Jim Skeen Daily News Staff Writer

Recognizing that the way to a student's heart may be through his stomach, Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  is beefing up its recruitment efforts by adding a free pancake breakfast to its coming open house.

The open house will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3, with pancakes, sausage and beverages offered in the cafeteria until 10:30 a.m. Self-guided and guided tours of facilities, demonstrations, performances by college music students and presentations by faculty members also will be offered.

The expanded open house was the idea of college President Linda Spink, who participated in more intensive recruiting efforts at the New York New York, state, United States

During the open house, AVC faculty will be available to discuss courses and programs such as biology, nursing, anatomy and physiology, English, the Internet and fine arts, digital photography, computer aided design (application) Computer Aided Design - (CAD) The part of CAE concerning the drawing or physical layout steps of engineering design. ``We want to bring them on campus and convince them we can serve their needs,'' Standerfer said.

Directed by Spink, the college is going through an examination of its strengths and weaknesses in an effort to boost its enrollment and retain more state funding.

To retain all of its allocated state funding, the college must have at least 6,626 full-time students - or their equivalent in part-time students under a formula established by the state.

Last year, the college had the equivalent of 6,384 full-time students, an enrollment level that cost it about $110,000 in funding.

With a full-time enrollment projection of 6,398 this year, the college faces the prospects of losing $100,000 to $110,000 more.

In addition, there is growth money available in the state budget - as much as $1 million - the college could receive if it were to boost enrollment to 7,237 full-time students.
