The Antelope Valley residents have taken out documents to run in November elections for community college and school district boards, but that could change by the Aug. 6 filing deadline. The district includes eight public high schools, one trade school, and two continuation high schools in the cities of Palmdale , Mel Kleven of the Lancaster School District Lancaster School District may refer to:
``I guess I'm getting to the point now I kind of know what I'm doing. It's always been a learning experience,'' said Kleven, who has been on the Lancaster board four years. ``If you're not willing to stand for re-election, then you're not entitled to it. Overall, I've loved it.'' Kleven said that he hopes to file his papers by the end of next week. The incumbents will be challenged by Isaac Diaz Barcelona for the Antelope Valley high school Antelope Valley High School is located in Lancaster, California and is part of the Antelope Valley Union High School District. It was founded in 1912[1]. It is located in the Mojave Desert. district, and Tom Lackey and Barbara Walsh for the Palmdale district. No one else has taken out paperwork for the Lancaster district election. ``I'm the father of six and the grandfather of seven, and my life has always been revolving around school. I think it's an exciting time in the high school district,'' said Barcelona, who works for Palmdale Unified. ``I like the teamwork that the board is demonstrating. I want to be part of that. I like the fact that it's a constructive time. And I like being part of positive, constructive things, and that's what I want to be a part of. I'm looking forward to serving the people of the community and the high school students, and to working with the board to continue the teamwork they have established.'' In the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District, James F. Duzick and Sally McCord are up for re-election but have not taken out papers. Peggy Foster has taken out papers for the Eastside Union School District, where incumbents Janette T. Crawford and Ida E. Ward have yet to declare their intentions. Judy Toothaker, a member of the Hughes-Elizabeth Lakes board, has taken out papers to run, but colleague Michael W. Vela vela plural of velum. has not. For the Westside Union school board, incumbent Gwendolyn A. Farrell is the only candidate to take out papers. Board member Scott Gmur has not yet taken action. For the Wilsona board, Dorthy Greene has taken out papers to run, while incumbent Maurice Kunkel has not. The board also has a vacant seat that will be filled during the election. |
