The Antelope Valley
High School's best friend in its 33-27 win over visiting Barstow Friday night.

The Antelopes (1-1) wasted almost every bit of a once comfortable 33-0 lead, but with the Aztecs driving for the potential winning touchdown, time finally ran out.

A.V's offense and special teams sputtered in the second half, and when Brian Gordon scooped up a fumble and ran 49 yards for a touchdown, the Aztecs trailed by just six with 2:41 left.

Barstow advanced to the 32 in the final minute, but with no timeouts quarterback Adonis Adonis, Syrian poet

Vailu'u was tackled in bounds on the final two plays.

The Lopes went backward in the second half after taking their 33-point margin at halftime. A.V. produced a minus 41 net yards in the final two quarters.

Barstow (1-1) was making all of those same mistakes in the first half. On the Aztecs' third play from scrimmage A play from scrimmage is the activity of the games of Canadian football and American football during which one team tries to advance the ball or to score, and the other team tries to stop them or take the ball away.  to begin the game, Russell Griffith couldn't handle the pitch from Vailu'u and Jon Molock recovered the fumble at the Barstow 24.

Four plays later A.V. quarterback Justin Mobley ran 8 yards for a touchdown. Jermaine Norman added a two-point conversion In American football and Canadian football, a team may try to score a two-point conversion (score two points) instead of an extra point (one point) immediately after it scores a touchdown.  on a direct snap to put the Lopes up 8-0 with 8 minutes, 40 seconds left in the quarter.

Bleyl was turned into a Bruce Molock 4-yard rushing touchdown.

Bruce Molock, Jon's older brother, slipped away from several tacklers for a 49-yard scoring run on the Lopes' next offensive play to make it 21-0 with 2:38 remaining.

Mobley was effective both running the ball and passing it in the first half. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior added a 6-yard run and 8-yard scoring pass to Joe Manning in the second quarter.

Mobley produced a total of 72 passing and 68 rushing yards while accounting for three touchdowns. He also intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter.

Two Lopes' punting miscues, one on a bad snap, the other a blocked kick, led to a pair of Barstow touchdowns spanning the third and fourth quarters.
