A.R. Valentien Restaurant: a high-energy homage to freshness.

Superb produce from renowned local farmers and the best of California's seafoods and meats are showcased at A.R. Valentien, the signature restaurant of The Lodge at Torrey Pines Torrey Pines can refer to:

  • Torrey Pines High School, a high school in the North County Coastal area of San Diego, California.

Chef Jeff Jackson oversees the restaurant's creative selections. The extensive California wine list features varietals from boutique vineyards. A.R. Valentien offers indoor private dining and alfresco dining on the deck beneath a canopy of Torrey pines, with views over rolling fairways to the Pacific.

Restaurant critic John Mariani says about A.R. Valentien:

"...A.R. Valentien -- named for an early-twentieth-century California artist -- offers big flavors and big portions via superb young Chef Jeff Jackson. Eat, drink, sleep, and play one of America's top public courses with sublime sublime /sub·lime/ (sub-lim´) to volatilize a solid body by heat and then to collect it in a purified form as a solid or powder.  abandon."

A.R. Valentien was named one of America's Best New Restaurants by ESQUIRE Magazine, November 2002.

Located a short walk or drive from The Lodge, Torrey Pines State Reserve Torrey Pines State Reserve is located within San Diego, California city limits and yet remains one of the wildest stretches of land on the Southern California coast. Lodge guests who walk to the Reserve are welcome (no admission fee) to hike its many miles of trails leading to ocean overlooks, as well as one thrilling, cliff-hanging stretch down to the beach. Parking in Reserve lots costs $4. Don't miss the original Lodge--our namesake--a Pueblo Revival style building designed by noted architect Richard Requa and constructed in 1923. It now serves as a museum and headquarters at the top of the Reserve's bluff. Reserve lands were first set aside in March 1899.

Our concierge can provide you with trail maps and a picnic lunch (but please note that the fragile Reserve only allows picnics on the beach; no food or drinks are allowed elsewhere on the cliffs or amongst the trees).

Torrey Pines State Reserve is open daily from 8AM until dusk. The Visitor Center opens daily at 9AM.
