As part of this announcement, GE also indicated that it will make a capital contribution of approximately $1.8 billion to support ERC's operations. This continued adverse development of ERC's non-life business follows a previously revised October 2002 forecast for year-end 2002 results of between $350-$450 million in net losses.

Overall, A.M. Best believes GE Global's operating performance continues to perform below expectations of Superior-rated companies due to weak operating fundamentals in its property/casualty businesses. Adverse loss development arising from inadequate pricing in its property/casualty business written between 1998-2000 has resulted in cumulative losses in excess of $3.5 billion over the past three years.

The ratings of GE Global will remain under review pending further discussions with management regarding GE Global's progress toward improving underwriting Underwriting

Concurrent with these rating actions, A.M. Best has also placed under review with negative implications the financial strength ratings of A (Excellent) of First Specialty Insurance Corp. and Westport Insurance Corp.
