A.M. Best Assigns Rating to Community Care Behavioral Health, Inc.


OLDWICK, N.J. -- A.M. See Windows memory limitation. ) of B++ (Good) to Community Care Behavioral Health Behavioral health was first used in the 1980's to name the combination of the fields mental health and substance abuse. As an example, an organization serving both mental health and substance abuse clients might refer to its practice as behavioral health or , Inc. (Community Care). The rating outlook is stable. Community Care is an insurance subsidiary of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) is a leading American healthcare provider and institution for medical research. It consistently ranks in US News and World Report's "Honor Roll" of the approximately 15 best hospitals in America.  (UPMC See Ultra-Mobile PC. ). A.M. Best has also affirmed the FSRs of UPMC's other insurance subsidiaries, UPMC Health Plan, Inc., UPMC Health Network, Inc. and UPMC For You, Inc. The outlook for these ratings is stable. Community Care is a strategic entity of UPMC, a nationally recognized, market-leading integrated healthcare delivery system in Pennsylvania. Community Care provides behavioral health services to UPMC health plan members and on a contracted basis with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare across Pennsylvania. Community Care has had consistent earnings over the past several years with margins of approximately 2%. Projections for 2007 indicate that profitability will continue. In 2006, Community Care was awarded several new risk contracts in northeastern Pennsylvania, which will rapidly increase membership. Although capital levels are sufficient for the current rating and Community Care has a history of maintaining sufficient amounts of capital during previous periods of significant growth, A.M. Best is concerned about the pressure the new levels of membership will have on capital and whether Community Care will be able to sustain sufficient amounts of capital for its current rating in the future.
