Best's Financial Performance Rating is the first phase of a two-phase rating system. The FPR addresses the growing demand for A.M. Best's opinion of the financial strength and operating performance of property/casualty and life/health companies. The letter rating system, which is the second phase, is the primary rating system and the one most widely recognized in the industry. A.M. Best anticipates assigning its initial letter rating to ACIC in the fall of 1996.
