A.M. BEST COMPANY, COLLEGE OF INSURANCE TO OFFER NEW SEMINARS

OLDWICK, N.J. /PRNewswire/ -- The A.M. Best Company and the College of Insurance for the first time have formed a partnership to jointly develop a series of educational courses designed to focus on the financial reporting and analysis of property/casualty and life/health insurance companies.
The first four courses will be offered in the spring of 1994. Introduction to Financial Reporting and Analysis and Advanced Financial Reporting and Analysis each will be broken down into two separate courses examining property/casualty and life/health insurers. Other courses being developed for the latter part of 1994 include sessions on taxation and reinsurance.
Assisting in course development will be John H. Snyder, senior vice president, property/casualty division, at A.M. Best, and Larry G. Mayewski, senior vice president, life/health division. The development team will be headed by Charles Edinger, executive vice president of the College of Insurance.
Ellen Thrower, College of Insurance president, said: "The purpose of these courses is to provide timely and relevant information for brokers, regulators and consultants as well as other professionals involved in financial analysis. With all of the changes happening today in the areas of taxes, accounting and regulation, ratings probably have never been more important, and professionals need a source of current educational programs that will equip them with the knowledge and tools necessary for sound financial analysis."
Although this marks the first time A.M. Best and the college are collaborating on courses, it isn't the first time the two have worked closely. Company founder Alfred M. Best was actively involved with the college's founding organization, the Insurance Society of New York, for nearly 40 years.
A.M. Best Company, founded in 1899, is the nation's leading insurance rating organization, analyzing insurers' claims-paying ability and financial strength for the benefit of insurance consumers. The company also publishes guides, directories, statistics and industry news for insurance professionals.
The College of Insurance, a fully accredited private college, traces its roots to 1901 and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. Currently, 1,100 students register for credit courses annually while more than 3,000 schedule for professional education seminars and short courses.
