A. H. Belo Selects Sony to Design New Digital Broadcast Center; Facility Will Serve as Hub for 24-Hour Texas Cable News Network.

TXCN is utilizing Sony's latest in MPEG-2 newsroom technology, including MAV-1000 video servers, BZN-3000 news production system, DNE-700 and DNE-1000 news editors, Betacam SX See Digital Betacam and Betacam. (R) hybrid recorders and DNW-9WS camcorders and DVS-7250 digital production switcher. The ClipServer(TM)/ClipEdit(TM) desktop editing systems will also be added when these products are released.

Utilizing Sony's BZN-3000 newsroom software enabled with SXnet(TM) technology and the DSM-series of MPEG-2 4:2:2P@ML encoders and decoders, TXCN's new facility will consist of a network of Sony DNE-series nonlinear news editing workstations and Betacam SX hybrid recorders communicating over Ethernet and wide area networks (WAN) allowing users to drag and drop A graphical user interface (GUI) capability that lets you perform operations by moving the icon of an object with the mouse into another window or onto another icon. For example, files can be copied or moved by dragging them from one folder to another.  transfer of video and audio files.

About SXnet Technology

SXnet technology allows moving audio and video files from one DNE-series nonlinear workstation to another or to Betacam SX hybrid recorders utilizing simple drag and drop transfers. The A/V (1) (Audio/Video) Refers to equipment and applications that deal with sound and sight. The A/V world includes microphones, tape recorders, audio mixers, still and video cameras, film projectors, slide projectors, VCRs, CD and DVD players/recorders, amplifiers and  material can be "pulled" or "pushed" between the different nodes on the network.

ClipServer/ClipEdit allows news reporters, writers, and producers to view and edit video on their computer desktops. As feeds are received by the BZN-3000 news server system, each item is mirror recorded at a lower resolution in Sony's ClipServer System.

Utilizing ClipEdit application software on their desktops, television journalists can edit their stories and VOs, then send the edit information to the on-air quality news server for automatic rendering and sequencing according to according to

 Roll effects and downstream title keying, journalists can send the ClipEdit edit list to DNE-series workstations which in turn, interface directly to newsroom server system for on-air playback.

About DNE-Series Workstations

For editing in the digital newsroom, DNE-700 and DNE-1000 workstations can be used for cuts-only editing or for editing with effects and downstream keying. All effects are processed in real time so there is no need to wait for results before continuing.
