A-B donates to Lake Pontchartrain project

Consistent with the company's commitment to the environment, Anheuser-Busch, Inc., has turned its attention to a project of concern to the residents of New Orleans and the surrounding areas.

A $25,000 unrestricted donation to fund the clean-up and restoration of Lake Pontchartrain was presented by Anheuser-Busch to the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation during a ceremony held April 11, at the Foundation's monthly board meeting.

The check was presented to Steve Cochran, Foundation director, by Ross Martin, A-B's marketing manager.

"This gracious donation is the type of multi-layered community support we need," Cochran said. "Assistance from government, academia, and the public and private sectors will make this project a success. Anheuser-Busch has helped us get one big step closer to the goal of a clean lake."

The Foundation, established in 1989, coordinates clean-up efforts in each of the lake's problem areas: stormwater and agricultural runoff, sewage and industrial discharge, loss of wetlands, salt water intrusion, and upstream flood control.

"The economic and social impact of a clean lake for the 1.5 million people who live in the basin area will be phenomenal," Martin explained. "The Tulane Business School estimates a 10-year positive regional economic impact of $750 million."
