BIRTLEY Town Reserves entertained Brandon British Legion and went down 4-3. Martin Guy put Birtley in front on 10 minutes, getting his head on to a superb cross to lift the ball over the goalkeeper.

Brother Chris Guy made it 2-0 five minutes later with a tap-in from close range.

Brandon then came back with a good finish from Micheal Eilles.

In the League Challenge Cup, the top two met at Cornforth with Whitehill eventually triumphing 4-3. Cornforth took an early lead through John Davis, but Whitehill equalised courtesy of Craig Mickell.

Peter Croft and a second for Davis put Cornforth 3-1 ahead at the break, only for Whitehill to storm back. First Ant Davison pulled one back, followed by Mickel claiming his second to level the scoring.

Craig Weatherall, Bryan Myers and Steven Chapman nabbed a goal apiece, Daniel Corbett a brace. Hartlepool St Francis disposed of Ebchester Reserves 4-1 thanks to a double from Matty Gardner and one apiece for Ashley Clarke and Jamie Hannah, Adam McVickers with the Ebchester consolation.

Leam Rangers edged out Hebburn Town Juniors 4-3 after extra time.

A double for James Bowman and a Steve Mullholland strike saw Hebburn 3-1 ahead at the break, Darren Smith with Leams effort.

The second half, however, was a different story with two strikes from David Lucas taking the match into extra time - where Steven Jeffers fired home the winner for Leam.
