The overall planning of a person's wealth, including the preparation of a will and the planning of taxes after the individual's death.

Notes:
Contrary to popular belief, estate planning involves much more than preparing a will, and it is not only for the
practitioner. However, accessing this universe can be daunting daunt

because of its magnitude and scope.

Here are some reference points from which to start your search as well as Web sites that offer valuable resources for getting answers to your estates, trusts and estate planning questions.

ASSOCIATION WEB SITES

For information related to estate and trust issues, as well as estate planning questions, go to CaICPA's Estate Planning committee's Web forum at www.calcpaweb.org/webforum. Here practitioners can post questions to committee members or search online Q&A archives to find answers.

The site is monitored daily and questions that are not responded to within a few hours are e-mailed to committee members for a response. It really is an excellent starting point.

The AICPA AICPA

See American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
, www.aicpa.org, has links to tax-related governmental sites and tax research services. Also, you can downloading practice guides on various tax topics, position papers and summaries of tax law changes.

PRACTITIONER PAGES

There are many estate planning practitioners who maintain Web sites featuring articles they have written and other information. San Francisco tax attorney Robert Sommers, known as The Tax Prophet, hosts www.taxprophet.com. This site not only has helpful articles on estate planning and abusive trusts but also contains an excellent links page under Cyber Surfing.

Also based in San Francisco is the law firm Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro. Its Estate Planning Memorandum, www.pmstax.com/estate, which is another valuable resource for estate planning articles.

GATEWAYS OPEN DOORS

Gateways are the doors to a wealth of information on any particular subject matter. One gateway, www.estateplanninglinks.com, is a tremendous resource. Maintained by Dennis Toman to·man

A very informative site is maintained by Brentmark Software, www.rothira.com. Here you'll find articles regarding Roth IRAs as well as links to calculators and other IRA-related sites.
