A North East glasshouse has been listed in the top 10 sites for green-fingered enthusiasts by members of the Botanic Gardens Conservation International Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) is a plant conservation charity based in London, England. It is a membership organisation, working with 800 botanic gardens in 118 countries, whose combined work forms the world's largest plant conservation network. .

Sunderland's Museum & Winter Garden made the list, where it was described as "amazing a·maze

 bosses said it housed "fascinating flora" alongside species such as the Travellers Palm (Ravenala madagascarenis) which depends on threatened lemurs to survive in its native Madagascar, "demonstrating the delicate balance between plants and animals, nature and mankind."

Sara Oldfield, Secretary General, BGCI, said: "Botanic gardens don't go into hibernation over the winter months and the glasshouses are a hive of activity and a tropical delight waiting to be explored."
