A tour of Bayfield County via its local newspaper.

Local newspapers can often provide outsiders with a window through which they can get a pretty good view of what an area is like. Here are some of the stories in The County Journal for Oct. 14, 1993.

Bank robbery is the crime of robbing a bank.
 

The main news was a daring daytime bank robbery in Washburn-the fourth in Northern Wisconsin in six weeks. Police were on the scene within three minutes "Three Minutes" is the 46th episode of Lost. It is the twenty-second episode of the second season. The episode was directed by Stephen Williams, and written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. It first aired on May 17, 2006 on ABC.  and roadblocks were in place in five minutes, but the robber escaped.

The week's other major story was the crash of a single engine plane near Herbster, which killed two people from Minnesota This is a list of notable persons who were born or spent important time in the state of Minnesota. Persons not born in Minnesota are marked with ยง.

The sheriff's log included a hunting accident involving a man from Illinois; five accidents; five deer-car accidents; four burglaries, two criminal damage reports; five thefts; three harassment calls; three minor fire calls; and one report of deer shining.

Bears a-plenty

In other news, 173 bears causing damage to farm crops, mostly corn, were live trapped and moved in 1993, in Bayfield and Douglas Counties. Eighteen were taken from one farm near Ino (near the center of Bayfield County).

A potluck supper and town meeting was to be held in Washburn to plan the town's future.

The New York-based dance company Ballet Hispanico was to perform at Northland College Northland College is the name of several learning institutions:

The 59-member Washburn Chamber of Commerce established a Winter Events Committee.

The Washburn High School Minneapolis Washburn High School is the fourth largest public high school in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Washburn is located at 201 West 49th Street. Its student population is approximately 1,275, with a staff of about 145. As of 2007 the school principal is Dr.  Choir will present a concert, "Rock On," "a celebration "A Celebration" was a non-album single released by U2 between the October and War albums in 1982. It is probably better known for its B-side, "Trash, Trampoline and the Party Girl" (later shortened to "Party Girl"), which has become a fan favorite throughout the  of the great rock songs of the 50's" through today.

Wolf awareness celebrated

Forest Lodge Library has a special exhibit for Wolf Awareness Week, and notes that there are two wolf packs in the area.

Wildwoods Evergreens is buying balsam balsam (bôl`səm), fragrant resin obtained from various trees. The true balsams are semisolid and insoluble in water, but they are soluble in alcohol and partly so in hydrocarbons. , cedar and princess pine boughs.

 stores in Bayfield, Washburn and Iron River feature family packs of chicken drumsticks for 69 cents a lb., beef rump roast for $1.99 a lb., ground beef for $1.39, and Campbell's tomato soup for 49cents.

Gasoline (87 octane) was $1.249 in Washburn and $1.269 in Iron River. (The statewide average at the time was $1.149.)

Nutrena rabbit pellets: $6.75 for 50 lbs. at the Iron River Co-op. (They told Countryside they sell "tons' of them.)
