A teaching moment. (Letters).

Jennifer Plum's article ("My alternative parents' weekend," September) was an excellent reminder of the importance of keeping an open mind. Had Plum not risked inviting her parents to an alternative weekend and had they not been open to participating, both parents and daughter would have missed an experience of a lifetime.

I was also reminded of the rewards that await children when they take the initiative, reach across the generation gap, and invite parents into their lives. This story was full of discovery and life.
