A new website has been launched by proud Northumbrian Joyce Hodgson to provide a one-stop-shop for information on the best food in the county.

Ms Hodgson, 45, said she has spotted a niche in the market for a website offering honest customer reviews of restaurants, pubs and hotels in Northumberland and is now in the early stages of setting up www. foodnorthumbria.com

Her vision is for a site with information ranging from traditional Northumbrian recipes, a chef of the month column with top chefs from around the area, and an interactive map of a variety of eating-out and local produce businesses. Originally from Allenheads, Ms Hodgson now lives at Errington Hill Head, a farm near Chollerford, overlooking o·ver·look

Hadrian's Wall Hadrian's Wall, ancient Roman wall, 73.5 mi (118.3 km) long, across the narrow part of the island of Great Britain from Wallsend on the Tyne River to Bowness at the head of Solway Firth. It was mainly built from c.A.D.  and has lived in Northumberland for most of her life and said she wants to promote everything which is good about the area.

With a background in hotel and catering as former front-of-house manager at the George Hotel at Chollerford, she said the one thing which is missing in the county and which many businesses would find invaluable is a review system.

"The review section will be a major part of the website and is something which is essential for businesses to help them improve their service," she said.

"There are other websites out there which give information on local producers but they are all very factual. I want someone to be able to click on the website and not only be able to see where they can go out for the day but also what other people's experience has been."

Businesses interested in featuring on the website will pay pounds 30 for a three-month advertising deal with the option of paying an extra pounds 20 to set up a link to their own website as well as the chance of getting their hands on the full, unedited customer reviews.
