He competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1984. SCIENTISTS in Britain have signed a historic agreement with Nasa to work together on space missions. They have pledged to join forces on flights to the moon and Mars. Although it will not involve British astronauts, it is hoped the initiative will inspire a generation of schoolchildren. The UK is a world leader in small satellite, robot and rover technology (needed to take samples from planet surfaces) and space communication and navigation systems. There are already plans to send a probe to study rocks on the moon. And British technology could be used in communication systems for a permanent moon base station which the Americans plan to build. The agreement between the British National Space Centre The British National Space Centre (or BNSC) is a voluntary partnership between eleven British government departments and agencies and research councils. It was formed in 1985 in order to coordinate UK civil space activities. and Nasa was signed in Washington.
