And their latest recruit, apprentice A person who agrees to work for a specified time in order to learn a trade, craft, or profession in which the employer, traditionally called the master, assents to instruct him or her.  ICT worker Howard Mourinho, whose Apprenticeship apprenticeship, system of learning a craft or trade from one who is engaged in it and of paying for the instruction by a given number of years of work. The practice was known in ancient Babylon, Egypt, Greece, and Rome, as well as in modern Europe and to some extent  is funded by the Learning and Skills Council, is already winning awards

The 20-year-old works for ADECS on the Mercia Business Village in Torwood Close, Westwood Business Park, and is described by staff as having an excellent relationship with customers and colleagues.

He has been awarded Apprentice of the Year for IT by his training provider Zenith zenith, in astronomy, the point in the sky directly overhead; more precisely, it is the point at which the celestial sphere is intersected by an upward extension of a plumb line from the observer's location.  Partnership, and has been voted company employee of the year by staff at ADECS.

His awards come as the Learning and Skills Council West Midlands' Success survey shows that 34 per cent of employers believe that being a good team player and listening well is important to being a success in today's workplace. They also rated young people who could think ahead, plan and organise.

Howard, of Kennedy Square, Leamington, says he loves his job and always tries to treat other people how he wishes to be treated himself. His job involves producing quotations based on research he has carried out on customers' requirements for computer hardware and software.

He added: "I am very pleased to be selected for the awards. ADECS has been completely supportive of my studies and long-term goals. A number of the current management team originally joined ADECS as placement students, so it is encouraging to know that if you work hard and do well there are opportunities to progress. "

ADECS company secretary Michelle Chaplin said: "Our work-based students are very important to our business as we have a policy of giving them responsibility right from the start and encouraging them to train and develop as the company grows."

Twelve-year-old firm ADECS, which has a pounds 1m turnover and has won awards for customer care, provides ICT support for businesses of all sizes.

She said: "Howard has thrown himself in to his work and is very eager to learn. Good communication skills are vital to his role as is feeling comfortable within the team at ADECS.

"He has done very well."
