A simple solution.

A leading official from a teachers' union this week suggested that football should be screened after the 9pm television watershed because the players set youngsters such a bad example.

He was referring to the amount of swearing, cheating and violent behaviour that goes on in every match, and which is highlighted by TV.

As far as I am aware, all three are covered by the Laws of the Game and it is referees who should be setting a good example by demonstrating that these kinds of behaviour will not be tolerated and will be punished to the letter of the law ( every time.

If the likes of Wayne Rooney (left) was shown a red card and received a three-match ban every time he swore in the direction of the officials, it wouldn't take long to improve his self-control.
