A shooting star; Adam nets academy place.

Byline: By CHRIS HOLE

A YOUNG football hotshot has hit the back of the net by scoring a place at Sunderland Sunderland, city (1991 pop. 195,064) and metropolitan district, NE England, at the mouth of the Wear River. The city was established as a shipbuilding center and a coal-shipping port in the 14th cent; shipbuilding ended in the 1980s, and coal mining in the 1990s.  Football Club's academy.

fan, Adam will be playing next season for the Black Cats Under-14 side.

Dad Andy is a massive football fan himself, and is over the moon with his son's progression.

"I used to practice with him a lot when he was younger," Andy said. "He's really excelled recently and has done really well."

After playing as a goal-grabbing centre forward he has started the season on the right wing for his new club - with his impressive pace already causing opposition defenses problems.

"He just lives football," Andy said.

"I'm very proud of him and hopefully he can go on to do well at Sunderland."

Adam started playing at Furness Rovers, in Barrow-in-Furness, but his family moved to Acklam in 2004.

and his new friends at Green Lane Primary School in Acklam were also looking for a football team to join.

So Craig Hurdnall and David Killington, dads of two of his new friends, started Acklam FC, who was initially placed in the lowest TJFA division.

In their first season, the youngsters finished eighth in Division Five.

Adam earned himself a reputation as a top goalscorer as he netted 27 times.

The following season was hugely successful for Acklam as they won the Under-12s division five, with Adam hitting the net 43 times.

last season as they ran away with the division four title, winning all 18 of their matches to finish 16 points clear at the top of the table, scoring 120 goals.

Adam scored 59 of those as Acklam made it through to the quarter-finals of the North Riding Cup and semi-final of the League Cup.

Acklam club secretary Craig Hurndall said: "His performances last season were outstanding and he's a smashing kid."

Acklam are looking for players for their Under- 9 and Under-14 sides this season.
