A sensible approach to eliminating neurotoxins.Neurotoxins are substances attracted to the mammalian nervous system. They are absorbed by nerve endings and travel within the neuron to the cell body. On their way, they disrupt vital functions of the nerve cell, such as axonal transport of nutrients, mitochondrial respiration, and proper DNA transcription. The body is constantly trying to eliminate neurotoxins via the available exit routes: liver, kidneys, skin, and exhalation. Detoxification mechanisms include methylation, acetylation, sulfation, glucuronidation, oxidation, and others. Through molecular trickery, invading microbes often trigger the host to produce neurotoxins (which damage host tissues). Toxins that prefer systems other than the nervous system (such as the immune system, sensory organs, or GI tract) are broadly referred to as biotoxins. The liver is most important in the toxin elimination process. Here, most waste products are expelled with the bile into the small intestine and should leave the body via the digestive tract. Because of the lipophilic/neurotropic nature of the neurotoxins, however, most are reabsorbed on the way through the small intestine by the abundant nerve endings of the enteric nervous system (ENS) in the intestinal wall. The ENS has more neurons than the spinal cord. From the moment of mucosal uptake, the toxins can potentially take four different paths: 1. uptake by unmyelinated autonomic neurons and axonal transport to the spinal cord (sympathetic neurons) or brainstem (parasympathetic neurons) to the brain; 2. venous uptake and portal vein transport back to the liver (enterohepatic circulation); 3. lymphatic uptake and thoracic duct transport to the subclavian vein; 4. uptake by bowel bacteria and tissues of the intestinal tract. Common Neurotoxins An incomplete list of common neurotoxins follows, in order of importance: 1. heavy metals, such as mercury, lead, cadmium, and aluminum; 2. biotoxins, such as tetanus toxin, botulinum toxin (Botox), ascaridin (from intestinal parasites), toxins from streptococci (streptolysin), staphylococci (leukocidins), Lyme disease (Bb Tox 1, quinolinic acid), chlamydia, tuberculosis, anaerobes (such as botulinum), fungal toxins (aflatoxin, patulin, many others), and toxins linked to viruses. Biotoxins are minute molecules (200-1000 kilodaltons) containing nitrogen and sulfur. They belong to a group of chemical messengers that microorganisms use to control the host's immune system and behavior (e.g., risk-taking, decision-making, eating habits, likes, and dislikes); 3. xenobiotics (synthetic environmental toxins): dioxin, phthalates, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), formaldehyde, insecticides, wood preservatives, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs); 4. food preservatives: Cry toxins from GMO foods, excitotoxins, and cosmetics toxins; aspartame (diet sweeteners); food colorings; fluoride; methyl- and propylparaben. I have found that mercury in its different chemical forms has a synergistic amplifying effect with all other neurotoxins. When mercury is removed, the body starts to eliminate all other neurotoxins more effectively, even without removal protocols that specifically address them. Neurotoxins can cause, contribute to, exaggerate, or perpetuate any existing illness. Fatigue, depression, insomnia, memory loss, and blunting of the senses are common early symptoms (see list of mercury-related symptoms on the following pages). The Neurotoxic Diagnosis To ascertain the presence of neurotoxins, the practitioner can ask specific questions and conduct specific tests such as: 1. History of exposure: Did you ever have any amalgam fillings? A tick bite? Water leaks and visible mold in the house? 2. Symptoms: How is your short-term memory? Do you have areas of numbness, strange sensations, loss of sense of smell, chronic pain, fatigue, or psychiatric symptoms? 3. Laboratory testing: * Metals: hair, stool, serum, red cells, urine challenge, urinary porphyrins * Mold/yeast: blood IgE, IgG panel, skin testing (American Academy of Environmental Medicine [AAEM]) * Xenobiotics: fatty tissue biopsy, urine organic acids, blood levels; 4. Autonomic Response Testing: a highly reliable and valid system of muscle biofeedback testing that I developed; 5. Bioenergetic testing (EAV, kinesiology); 6. Response to therapeutic trial; 7. Functional Acuity Contrast Test (FACT): measure of retinal blood flow, which reflects cerebral blood flow. Tests commonly used to establish the diagnosis of metal toxicity include the urinary porphyrins test, which may indicate body burden, and the urine metal challenge, which can only indicate those metals that are easily mobilized with the agent used. Stool excretion is a major route of detoxification, but the available tests seem inaccurate (split sampling is unsatisfying). Hair analysis is an excellent way to monitor the effectiveness of detoxification agents. Hair levels of a particular toxin will increase, often for months, if an effective agent is used. This is the best way to monitor detoxification of methylmercury. The results of the red cell test may or may not represent true levels. The test depends on active transport of the toxic metals into the red cell and is vulnerable to the lack of ATP. The following is a short list of independent risk factors that can cause accumulation of metals in an otherwise healthy body, or slow down or inhibit the body's elimination processes: * genetics * occupational exposure to toxic material * prior illnesses * surgical operations * medication or recreational drug use * emotional trauma, especially in early childhood * social status * high carbohydrate intake combined with protein malnutrition (especially in vegetarians) * use of homeopathic mercury * food allergies * electromagnetic environment (e.g., mobile phone use, home close to power lines) * constipation * compromise of head/neck lymphatic drainage (sinusitis, tonsillectomy scars, poor dental occlusion) * number of dental amalgam fillings over the patient's lifetime, number of the patient's mother's amalgam fillings * vaccine-related ethylmercury poisoning * hemopyrrollactamuria (excessive loss of zinc, manganese, vitamin B6, and omega-6 oils in the urine) The Five Levels of Healing In the 1980s, I developed a systematic model of healing known as the Five Levels of Healing. Since then, I have been teaching it to practitioners all over the world. Through this model, many doctors and healers have been able to understand their work better, and make better choices for their patients and their own education. This approach has already entered the heart and conscious reality of integrative medicine worldwide. I apply this model to the successful elimination of neurotoxins. According to the Five Levels of Healing model, we exist simultaneously in different dimensions. The physical body exists within a sphere of invisible energy bodies, each having its own anatomy and physiology. There is an alive and profound interaction among the different levels. Every ancient culture knows this system and has described it in different terms. The Lowest Level Is the Physical Body The physical body is the foundation on which everything else rests. It is our connection to the earth and the source of our physical energy. The physical body is what we perceive with our five senses and is identical with what we see, feel, hear, smell, and taste. It ends at the skin. The modalities of the first level include the physical examination, lab work, structural work, medications, and supplements The Second Level Is the Energy Body, or "Body Electric" It is the summation of all electric and magnetic events caused by the neuronal activity of the nervous system. It is also created by biophoton emissions of our DNA. Because most somatic and autonomic nerves in the body travel along the longitudinal axis of the body, and the nerve currents spread as electric fields along these nerves, the magnetic fields created by these forces travel perpendicular to this axis into the space that surrounds us, theoretically to infinity. Even though their strength decreases with distance from the body, they extend into space beyond the skin. The most profound new knowledge on this level comes from world-renowned physicist Fritz-Albert Popp, PhD: Each cell emits biophotons--light, which is highly coherent, polarized, and "squeezed." The biophoton field created by the light emissions around the body regulates the activity of all metabolic enzymes within the cells. It modulates neural transmission, neurotransmitter production and release, detoxification, hormone production, and many other bodily functions. The therapies that function on the second level include acupuncture, neural therapy, light therapy, Reiki, and other energetic modalities. The Third Level Is the Mental Body, or Mental Field It extends theoretically into infinity squared, and the higher two levels extend beyond that. Beliefs, attitudes, and thoughts based on one's life experience and learning constitute and organize this level. There is an individual mental field and a transpersonal consensus field (consensus reality). Every emotion (second level) is preceded by a perception and a thought or chain of thoughts. Thoughts trigger emotions and other energy-body changes, which in turn trigger change in the physical body. We are all surrounded by our own mental fields, which in turn interrelate with the consensus field of our human species. A mental field can be healthy or it can be unwell. I developed Mental Field Therapy, which utilizes the tapping of specific acupuncture points, eye movements, and reevaluation of conflicts and traumas as an elegant way to address the third level. The Klinghardt Axiom of Detoxification: * The body always strives to achieve equilibrium between stored unresolved emotional issues, toxin retention, and the presence of pathogenic microbes. * The reverse axiom: A patient cannot be "detoxed" beyond the degree to which emotional issues are also released. The body burden of stored toxins predicts the presence of pathogenic microbes: the immune system cannot prevail in contaminated body compartments. Microbes grow and prosper in proportion to the amount of toxins stored. This in turn reflects the degree to which emotional issues have been resolved. The Fourth Level Is a Level Beyond the Mind and Beyond Language It is the "home" of near-death experiences, past-life memories, archetypes, spirit possession, ecstatic states, karma, and the expression of unresolved transgenerational family issues. This is the highest level at which an interaction between physician and client is possible. I call this level the dream body or intuitive body. Healing on this level often leads to instant disappearance of the associated unresolved conflicts on the third (mental) level, emotional issues (second level), and first-level physical symptoms or biochemical abnormalities (downward causation). At the same time, the energy required for healing work has to flow upward from the lower energy-supplying levels. Simple interventions on the lower three levels lay the foundation to make the work on the fourth level possible. Any unresolved issue on any level creates boundaries for the individual to exist in. I teach and offer patients the Family Constellations work of Bert Hellinger to resolve family and generational conflicts at this level. The Fifth Level Is the Spirit Body The only relationship that exists here is that between the individual and the divine. It would be a good start, after resolution of the physical problem, for both the physician and the patient to turn inward and upward with an attitude of gratefulness. Simply praying or meditating may not be enough. If the patient does not complete his or her healing work on the fifth level, there may be a gradual relapse of the condition. The vertical healing system can be a valuable foundation for truly understanding what holistic medicine is and gives the practitioner a map to navigate the sometimes chaotic landscape of healing techniques. Healing depends not only on the skill of the practitioner, but in a major way on the attitude of both patient and practitioner. And when the largely unwritten laws of the Five Levels of Healing are respected, healing occurs much more frequently than otherwise. Order of Elimination The elimination of toxic metals is most important, followed by the elimination of organic toxins such as insecticides, wood preservatives, PBDEs, and phthalates. Everyone is toxic, and everyone benefits from working a detox program for lead and mercury. We all have PBDEs (fire retardants), phthalates (plastic softeners), and more in our tissues Detoxification needs to happen in the order that the body can handle. An individual's exposure to mercury begins as in utero and is accelerated by vaccinations (some now have reduced levels of ethylmercury). Once ethylmercury is introduced as thimerosal into the body via injection, it is picked up by unmyelinated nerves and travels through the axons in less than 24 hours into the spinal cord. In another 24 hours, it reaches the brain, where it is initially taken up by the astrocytes. They become ill and start failing in one of their most important jobs: to create the blood-brain barrier. The mercury is later taken up by protein molecules (enzymes) within the brain, by glucosaminoglycans (GAGs) in the extracellular matrix, receptors on cell walls, enzymes, structural molecules and GTP (the enzyme that creates tubulin), enzymes of the citric acid cycle within the mitochondria, and more. The main volume of mercury is trapped in the tissues of the muscles, bones, and ligaments, outside the central nervous system. It is also trapped in the lymphatic tissue and adipose tissue. Overall, only a small amount reaches the brain, but this is the very mercury that causes the most trouble. The order in the ethylmercury elimination protocol is very important. It is paramount that the excretory organs be cleared before treating the brain; if the brain is treated first, the toxins from the body will move into it, and the patient will be retoxified. Mercury and lead have a lethal synergistic effect. Use an agent first that removes only lead, and then the stronger agents. Start with EDTA (intravenous or suppository). Hair testing is inexpensive and noninvasive. It can be helpful to monitor progress. Since it does not require provocation, it can be conducted without concern on very sensitive or ill children. When the hair test is negative for lead, start by first removing the bulk of the mercury that is not bound in the central nervous system. DMPS (IV or IM) and vitamin C, DMSA (oral), Zn-DPTA, and the algal organism chlorella are ideal for this. Neurotoxin Elimination Protocol Level 1 My neurotoxin elimination protocol begins with steps taken on the first level of healing. I emphasize elimination agents that are natural, safe, and often as effective as (or more effective than) the few available pharmaceuticals. Because these products cannot be patented and exploited for unethical personal gain, European and North American medical researchers have given them little attention. Many of the best scientific studies on this topic are from Asian countries. Diet: For neurotoxin elimination, a high intake of protein, mineral, fatty acid, and fluid is important. Amino acids from food protein provide the important precursors to the endogenous metal detox and shuttle agents, such as ceruloplasmin, metallothioneine, glutathione, and others. The branched-chain amino acids in cow and goat whey have valuable independent detox effects. Metals attach themselves only in places that are programmed for attachment of metal ions. Mineral deficiency provides the opportunity for toxic metals to attach themselves to vacant binding sites. A healthy mineral base (selenium, zinc, manganese, germanium, molybdenum, etc.) is a prerequisite for all metal detox attempts. Substituting minerals can, on its own, detoxify the body Clients suffering from kryptopyrroluria (KPU) or hemopyrrollactamuria (HPU) require supernormal levels of zinc, manganese, and P5P (pyridoxaf-5-phosphate) intake. These conditions are common in late-stage Lyme patients and autistic children. Equally important are electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium), which help to transport toxic waste across the extracellular space towards the lymphatic and venous vessels. Lipids (formed from fatty acids) comprise 60% to 80 % of the central nervous system and need to be constantly replenished. Deficiency makes the nervous system vulnerable to the fat-soluble metals, such as metallic mercury constantly escaping as odorless and invisible vapor from the amalgam fillings. Without sufficient fluid intake, the kidneys can become contaminated with metals. The basal membranes swell up and the kidneys can no longer filtrate toxins efficiently. Adding a balanced electrolyte solution in small amounts to water helps restore intra- and extracellular fluid balance. Silica from clay or other sources is important for the healthy structure of the extracellular matrix. Oral Administration: It is very important to me that my patients take the detoxification supplements that will benefit them the most. To that end, I became a consultant for BioPure Healing Products, which manufactures its products according to my specifications. Because of the tremendous variety of products on the market and the ease at which people can become retoxified if the job is not done correctly, I only endorse products whose quality I have learned to trust. Chlorella, cilantro, garlic products, and fatty acids vary greatly in quality and nutrient content, as well as in contaminant content. Chlorella (cell wall cracked by sound): 20 to 60 per day. Be aware that there are significant differences in quality and purity. Chlorella has multiple published health-inducing effects: * toxin binding (via its mucopolysaccharide membrane) of all known toxic metals and many environmental toxins such as dioxin, chlordane, and others; * antiviral, especially effective against the cytomegalovirus from the herpes family; * repair and activation of the body's detoxification functions: * it dramatically increases intracellular reduced glutathione; * its component sporopollenin is as effective as cholestyramin in binding neurotoxins and more effective in binding toxic metals then any other natural substance found; * various peptides restore ceruloplasmin and metallothioneine; * lipids (12.4 %) alpha-and gamma-linolenic acid help to balance the increased intake of fish oil during the detox program and are necessary for a multitude of functions, including formation of the peroxisomes (intracellular detox organelles); * methylcobolamin feeds the nervous system, restores damaged neurons, and has its own detoxifying effect (rarely found in plants); * chlorella growth factor helps the body detoxify itself in a profound way, though the mechanism behind this is not yet understood. It appears that over millions of years, chlorella has developed specific detoxifying proteins and peptides for every existing toxic metal; * the porphyrins in chlorophyll have their own strong metal-binding effect. Chlorophyll also activates the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) on the nucleus of the cell. This receptor is responsible for the transcription of DNA, coding for the formation of the peroxisomes, the opening of the cell wall (unknown mechanism) necessary in all detox procedures, normalization of insulin resistance, and much more. Note: Medical drugs that activate the PPAR receptor (such as pioglitazone) have been effective in the treatment of breast and prostate cancer. * super-nutrient: 50% to 60% amino acid content, ideal nutrient for vegetarians, rich in methylcobolamin (the most easily absorbed and utilized form of B12), B6, minerals, chlorophyll, carotenoids; * strengthening of the immune system (reduces IL-1 and IL-6, NF kB, increases IL-10, increases NK cell activity); * restoration of bowel flora; * digestive aid: bulking agent; * alkalinizing agent, which is important for patients with malignancies. Dosage: Start with 2.5 grams (10 tablets) 2 to 3 times/day. This is the standard maintenance dosage for adults for the 6 to 24 months of active detoxification. During the more active phase of the detox (every 2 to 4 weeks for 1 week), whenever cilantro is given, the dose can be increased to 3 to 6 grams 3 to 4 times per day (1 week on, 2 to 4 weeks back down to the maintenance dosage). Take 30 minutes before the main meals and at bedtime. This way, chlorella is in the exact portion of the small intestine where the bile squirts into the gut at the beginning of the meal, carrying with it toxic metals and other toxic waste. These are absorbed and bound by the chlorella cell wall and carried out via the digestive tract. When amalgam fillings are removed, the higher dose should be given for 2 days before and 2 to 5 days after the procedure (the more fillings removed, the longer the higher dose should be given). No cilantro should be given around the time of dental work. During this time, we do not want to mobilize deeply stored metals in addition to the expected new exposure. If you take vitamin C during your detox program, take it as far away from chlorella as possible (best after meals). I recommend chewing a few chlorella tablets immediately after dental procedures. Spit them out after 10 to 15 minutes of chewing, then scrape the tongue and brush the teeth. Side effects: Most side effects reflect the toxic effect of the mobilized metals, which are shuttled through the organism. This problem is instantly avoided by significantly increasing the chlorella dosage. Do not reduce it; that worsens the problem. Small chlorella doses mobilize more metals than are bound up in the gut; large chlorella doses bind up more toxins then are mobilized. Some people have problems digesting the cell membrane of chlorella. The enzyme cellulase, available in digestive enzyme products sold at many health food stores, often resolves this problem. Taking chlorella together with food also helps in some cases, even though it is less effective that way. C. vulgaris has a thinner cell wall and is better tolerated by people with digestive problems; however, it lacks sporopollein and has less absorptive capacity. Cilantro (Chinese parsley): This kitchen herb is capable of mobilizing lead, aluminum, nickel, mercury, and cadmium in both the bones and the central nervous system. BioPure cilantro uses special seed from Brazil to grow cilantro under conditions and in soil that enhance its detoxification power. Aside from DMEP and penicillamine, it is probably the only effective agent that can cross the blood-brain barrier and mobilizes mercury stored in the intracellular space (attached to mitochondria, tubulin, and liposome and in the nucleus of the cell, reversing DNA damage of mercury). Because cilantro mobilizes more toxins than it can carry out of the body, it may flood the connective tissue (where the nerves reside) with metals previously stored in safer hiding places. This process is called retoxification or redistribution; it can easily be avoided by simultaneously giving an intestinal toxin-absorbing agent like chlorella. In addition, a recent animal study of cilantro demonstrated the rapid removal of aluminum and lead from the skeleton superior to any other known detox agent. Dosage: Take 15 drops of BioPure cilantro tincture in hot water 3 times per day prior to a meal and at bedtime (during the vagus-dominant sleep phase, many detox functions are most active), or 30 minutes after taking chlorella. Cilantro causes the gallbladder to dump bile--containing the excreted neurotoxins--into the small intestine. The bile release occurs naturally as we are eating and is much enhanced by cilantro. As noted, if no chlorella is taken, the abundant nerve endings of the ENS reabsorb most neurotoxins as they travel through the small intestine. Gradually increase dose for full benefit. In the initial phase of the detox, cilantro should be given 5 days on, 2 days off. Other ways of taking cilantro: * Rub 5 drops twice daily into ankles for mobilization of metals in all organs, joints, and structures below the diaphragm, and into the wrists for those above the diaphragm. The wrists have dense autonomic innervation (for axonal uptake of cilantro) and are crossed by the main lymphatic channels (for lymphatic uptake). * For headaches and other acute symptoms (joint pains, angina, headache) rub 10 to 15 drops into the painful area. This often achieves almost instant relief. Matrix Metals: This is a truly nanonized extract of chlorella, cilantro, and other detox herbs. The spray has been used successfully in the treatment of autism and more advanced neurological disorders (Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, multiple sclerosis). Matrix Metals is a brain anti-inflammatory and antioxidant and an ideal agent for clearing the brain of neurotoxins. The action is so smooth that patients often feel that they have healed themselves and that the treatment was just something they also did (which is similar to good homeopathic healing). Application: * Best used nasally to achieve uptake via the olfactory nerves into the limbic system and via the parasympathetic nerves into the facial ganglia. Take the spray nozzle off the bottle; replace with regular dropper. While lying down with the head back, put 2 drops in each nostril 2 to 3 times per day. * For use with autistic children: 2 to 3 sprays sublingually 3 times per day away from food. * Adult dosage during general detox program: 8 sprays 2 times per day Other intestinal binding agents: Green clay, silica gel, beta-sitosterol, charcoal, apple pectin, zeolites, chitin, and chitosan. Organic high-alliin freeze-dried garlic (allium sativum): Garlic has been shown to protect white and red blood cells from oxidative damage, caused by metals traveling through the bloodstream on their way out of the body. It also has its own valid detoxification functions. Garlic contains numerous sulfur components, including the most valuable sulfhydryl groups, which oxidize mercury, cadmium, and lead and make these metals water soluble. This makes it easy for the organism to excrete these substances. Garlic also contains alliin, which is enzymatically transformed into allicin, nature's most potent antimicrobial agent. Metal-toxic patients almost always suffer from secondary infections, which are often responsible for part of the symptoms. Garlic also contains bioactive selenium, which has strong antiviral properties and is the most important mineral that protects against mercury toxicity. Most selenium products are poorly absorbable and do not reach those body compartments in need of it. Garlic selenium is the most natural, beneficial bioavailable source. Garlic also protects against heart disease and cancer. The half-life of allicin (after crushing garlic) is less than 14 days. Most commercial garlic products have no allicin-releasing potential left. This distinguishes freeze-dried garlic from all other products. BioPure's organic freeze-dried garlic is highest in alliin and energetically enhanced. Dosage: Dissolve 1 to 3 capsules of freeze-dried garlic in water, stir for 2 minutes until completely dissolved, then drink before each meal. Start with 1 capsule before the main meal per day, then slowly increase to the higher dosage. A single capsule dissolved in water converts to more than 13 mg of allicin. Initially the patient may experience die-off reactions (from killing pathogenic fungal or bacterial organisms). To turn garlic into a most powerful antimicrobial: Dissolve garlic in 1 to 2 tsp olive oil. Add 1 tsp Phospholipid Exchange (see following), slowly add water, and stir until a milky emulsion is created. Add 1 dropperful cilantro tincture. Drink 3 to 4 times per day; best before meals. Phospholipid Exchange (PLE; from BioPure): This contains natural extracted powerful phospholipids (phosphatidyl serine, choline, and others), magnesium, alpha-lipoic acid, and Na-EDTA. This magical mix encourages the "reverse cholesterol transport" (taking deposits out of endothelium), has a strong antimicrobial effect, and removes biotoxins (including mold mycotoxins, mercury, and Lyme-related toxins) from the extracellular matrix and the cell wall, as well as from within the cell. PLE crosses the blood-brain barrier and can remove toxins from the brain. Long-term results are dramatic, especially in the treatment of Lyme-related heart problems and disturbed microcirculation of the frontal lobe of the brain. Phospholipids have a profound synergistic effect with herbs, facilitating their absorption and distribution into the matrix and beyond. Dosage: 2 tsp 1 to 3 times per day. PLE can be used to enhance the uptake of other vitamins and nutrients. Forceful electrolyte supplementation: Matrix Electrolytes (ME) from BioPure is the most balanced and best tolerated formula for metal detoxification. The autonomic nervous system in most toxic patients is dysfunctional. Electrical messages in the organism are not received, or are misunderstood or misinterpreted. Toxins cannot be shuttled through the extracellular space. Increased intake of natural ocean salt (Celtic sea salt), along with avoidance of regular table salt, has been found effective in resolving some of these problems. Most effective is an electrolyte replacement pioneered by the American chemist Ketkovsky and improved by our research team, available as ME. I have observed that every aspect of the detoxification process seems to be enhanced by ME. It also enhances the absorption and clinical effectiveness of herbs. Five percent of the population is sodium or chloride sensitive, indicated by a rise in blood pressure (easily reversible). In these patients, the detox process takes longer and is more difficult. Dosage: 1 tbsp in 1 liter of water. Drink throughout the day. Forceful trace mineral supplementation. This includes copper, unless the copper/zinc ratio in hair or urine indicates copper toxicity. Good minerals compete with the toxic ones and can knock them off their binding sites. To prevent collagen and connective tissue breakdown by increased activity of the matrix metalloproteinases: * carnosine: 1000 mg 3 times daily * doxycycline: 20 mg 2 times daily To increase intracellular glutathione: * branched-chain amino acids, valine, leucine, and isoleucine (high in all whey products) * chlorella (see above) To correct neurotransmitter imbalances: To identify the specific neurotransmitter imbalances in a patient, I use the test and questionnaire published by Eric Braverman in the book The Edge Effect. Note that dopamine is the most depleted when chronic infections are present. As a precursor to dopamine, use Mucuna powder (1 to 6 tsp/day) or bitter orange (2-6 caps at bedtime). Used since ancient days in India, Mucuna (Mucuna pruriens) is a powerful antimicrobial. It can restore depleted neurotransmitter levels in the chronic Lyme patient. Specifically, it increases a person's energy by raising frontal lobe dopamine levels. Mucuna can also improve parkinsonian symptoms and enhance sexual stamina. It is an excellent anti-aging compound. Neuroprotection. * Quintessence (BioPure) is a synergistic mix of five specially grown herbs with documented strong neuroprotective effects. It exerts anti-mold, anti-Lyme, and anti-aging effects, and promotes lymphatic drainage. The synergy of the extracts accelerates the detox process. Dosage: add 8 to 10 dropperfuls to the daily Matrix Electrolyte water (see above). * Garlic and vitamin E are also important to protect the nervous system during the detox process. DMEP: Newly FDA-approved as an antioxidant. This DMSA-like fat-soluble detox compound can cross the blood-brain barrier and remove mercury from the brain and nervous system. Dosage: 100 mg per/day dissolved in 1 tsp Phospholipid Exchange. Other agents commonly used by other practitioners: * IV glutathione: helpful in conjunction with other detox agents but weak on its own; * IV vitamin C: effectively detoxes via the gut, but unable to detox the central nervous system; * DMPS: effective for extracellular matrix detox; * alpha-lipoic acid: ineffective on its own, but helpful in removing mold toxins and in cases of liver toxicity. To help glutathione-bound toxins make it through the cell wall, take 100 mg every 3 to 4 hours (600 mg/day); * CaEDTA: works well via suppository and IV in reasonably healthy people. Taking apple cider vinegar in water in the morning produces similar effects, as vinegar has similar biochemistry; * DMSA: take 10 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 3 to 4 hours (3 days on, 11 days off) or 100 mg 3 times per day only 2 to 3 days per week (only 20% absorption). Best are rectal suppositories: 10 to 30 mg/kg up to 3 times per week (80% absorption); * d-penicillamine: Russel Jaffe protocol; * malic acid: helps remove aluminum. Neurotoxin Elimination on Level 2 For neurotoxin elimination on the second level of healing, I consider the addition of energy medicine instruments and EMF/electrosmog protection. Supportive modalities on levels 1 and 2 include exercise (avoiding postexercise fatigue), body vibration to move lymph, saunas to release fat-soluble toxins through the skin, electromobilization from microcurrent technologies and the ionic footbath, mercury vapor lamps, photomobilization with LED technologies, color therapy, green laser photophoresis, the Valkion singlet oxygen energy unit (inhalation and drinking energized water increases mitochondrial ATP, improves virtually every lab parameter found in chronic illness), colon hydrotherapy, and lymphatic drainage massage. Neurotoxin Elimination on Level 3 The third level of healing brings us to psychotherapeutic interventions to trigger the release of toxins from their hiding places. From the research of Dr. Popp, we know today that the memory of all events from conception onwards are stored in the individual mental field, and the events before conception (past lives) are stored in the transpersonal portion of the mental field. Unresolved issues create a permanent disturbance in the field. The mental field has an organizing and structuring effect on the energy systems of the body, which in turn coordinate and structure the epigenomic regulatory proteins, and therefore most or all biochemical and metabolic events in the physical body. The receptor for the incoming organizing light signals from the holographic field is tubulin, the ubiquitous molecule that connects the extra- and intracellular body-compartments. R. G. Hamer, MD, demonstrated that unresolved conflicts create a significant bioelectrical disturbance in conflict-specific areas of the brain. The abnormal signals produce abnormal neuropeptides and abnormal electrical currents that reach the hypothalamus. From here, the signals travel in the autonomic nervous system to distinct target organs, which are again conflict-specific. Chronic abnormal stimulation of, for example, the sympathetic fibers that reach the liver creates chronic vasoconstriction, abnormal gating phenomena at the ionic channels of the cell walls, and, of course, the presence of abnormal noxious neuropeptides, leading to chronic illness and pain. I focus on techniques that exert their healing effect primarily on the autonomic nervous system (such as neural kinesiology, applied kinesiology, Autonomic Response Testing, neural therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, syntonic optometry, biology, and all recent combination of these, such as neuropsychology). Mental Field Therapy (MFT), an offshoot of Thought Field Therapy (TFT), pioneered by Roger Callahan, PhD, should be considered the first line of treatment for any physical, emotional, or psychological condition before resorting to other interventions. Back pain and other orthopedic conditions, all acute emotional crisis states, psychological conditions, and most medical problems respond partially or completely to this approach. Patients with mental field perturbations often suffer from depression, phobias, fears, compulsiveness, chronic pain, and much more. All chronic illnesses have an element of field distortion or detachment. They are typically not only resistant to conventional medicine, but also to psychotherapy, unstructured alternative therapies, and psychic healing. These patients need a simple but highly structured set of specific interventions; that is, Mental Field Therapy. To review the Klinghardt Axiom of Detoxification: The body always strives to achieve equilibrium between stored unresolved emotional issues, toxin storage and the presence of pathogenic microbes. Conversely, a patient cannot be "detoxed" beyond the degree to which emotional issues are also released. If only one of these three components (emotional issues, toxins, microbes) is addressed, no matter how well, the client may move from crisis to crisis and eventually get stuck in the process. The body does not tolerate any disequilibrium, even if the physician has done good work and some lab parameters have improved. Our goal is to anticipate and address these three issues simultaneously, not in sequence and not in different offices with different practitioners. Any practitioner can easily learn and master, in short weekend workshops, the techniques for simultaneous detoxification on multiple levels of healing. by Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, PhD Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, PhD Klinghardt Academy of Neurobiology 4630 Talbot Drive Boulder, Colorado 80303 303-499-4700 info@klinghardt.org Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, PhD, is founder of the Klinghardt Academy of Neurobiology (www.klinghardtneurobiology.com) and lead clinician at the Comprehensive Medical Center located in Kirkland, Washington. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Internationally known for his successful treatment of chronic pain and illness, Dr. Klinghardt's holistic technique combines principles of nonsurgical orthopedic medicine with those of immunology, endocrinology, toxicology, neural therapy, hypnotherapy, and energy psychology. Dr. Klinghardt developed ART, a comprehensive diagnostic system that has helped to transform many practices in the US and abroad into healing centers--and helped many practitioners to become accomplished wholistic physicians. His teaching and philosophy include insights into the influence of the family system on one's health through working with family-systems oriented healing approaches developed by psychoanalyst, Bert Hellinger. Due to his innovative contributions to neural therapy, acupuncture, homeopathy, energy medicine and energy psychology, Dr. Klinghardt is regularly invited to teach workshops at the prestigious "Medicine Week" in Baden-Baden, Germany. He is the author of a groundbreaking German book on muscle-feedback-guided psychotherapy titled, Psychokinesiology--A New Approach in Psychosomatic Medicine. He has been instrumental in advancing various fields within Biological Medicine: the nonbiochemical treatment of chronic infections and toxic states, modern homeopathy, noninvasive pain management, injection techniques for pain and orthopedic dysfunction, anti-aging medicine, toxicology, pediatrics (treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders), energy psychology, biological dentistry, and others. In recognition of his work, he received the "Physician of the Year" reward by the Global Foundation of Integrative Medicine in May 2007. |
